Yanmar 2002
Ok, since my Yanmar was stolen, see http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/yanmar/112942-stolen-yanmar-2002-a.html for the sad details, I'm looking to get a Kubota. My problem is there are so many different models that I'm truly confused as to which to get.

I'll primarily be using the tractor to maintain 5 acres of mostly level land with a rather long gravel driveway (that my heavy diesel truck is just destroying). I'd likely later add a backhoe for trenching, digging etc, but I don't have the need for it right now. That said I do want a FEL, as my Yanmar had one and I loved it, so many uses.

My dealer says that I should get a B7800 w/ FEL, and he seems to think that it's all the tractor I'll ever need. However, the more I read the more I think I'd be happier with a B3030, or maybe even pull the trigger and get a L3240 or L3400 or an L3830??? Perhaps there is some other Kubota I'd be happier with??? Why does Kubota need so many models of tractors? It sure makes choosing one so darn hard.

As you can see I'm completely confused as to which to go with, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a B7800 and it's all I need. I mow about 5 acres of lawn (it mows beautifully), I also brush hog a hillside, logging roads, and fields, it handles a 5' box blade and doesn't even break a sweat. I know I bypassed the fel rating, which probably isn't very smart, but the tractor handled it with absolutely no problem. My best buddy got the same tractor a week after I got mine,(April 07) but he got a back hoe on his. This is a guy that ran heavy equipment in the navy, and runs a dozer in a power plant for a living. He said that the tractor and the hoe amaze him each time he uses it. For maintaining 5 acres, I feel that the 7800 would serve you well. It is a basic tractor, but I know that I am more than satisfied with mine. Come on over and I'll let you put a few hours on it to try it out. Best of luck.

IMO since you have already had a tractor with position control on the 3PH you will not be happy with quarter inching. Select a tractor that has this option. For long term use you will appreciate the added features of the premium model tractors.

Yep, the B7800 is "enough" tractor to do the job, but as pointed out by the others, it's a "basic" tractor while the B3030 is more of a "deluxe" model. And since I, too, much prefer position control on the 3-point, I'd go with the B3030 if I could afford it.

Why does Kubota need so many models of tractors?

My Kubota salesman also sold Case International in the bigger agricultural equipment, and he once told me his biggest complaint with Kubota was having too many models to keep up with.:D

I think the B3030 is the better choice. Tractors are tool carriers. The 3 point hitch is very important. The 3030 is 20% stronger and has more precise control((than 7800). Two other key features, extendable lower links and the wratchet right link. Also, if you dropped your cell phone or wallet on the 7800, it will end up on the ground, LOST!

I assume you do understand that none of us are saying the B7800 is not a good tractor. It's a good tractor and it'll do the job; you'll just enjoy doing the work more on the B3030.:)

Thanks for the advice y'all, if everything goes smoothly I should be picking up a B3030. That's not to say that the 7800 is bad, it's just the B3030 seems a much more refined tractor for the money.

I still wish Kubota would cut down on the model numbers, or at least have them make some sort of sense. I get that the B3030 and B2630 the first number refer to engine HP, but how does the B7800 fit into the scheme? It makes no sense to me, no sense at all.

I have a 2005 B7510HST with the LA302 FEL (4-ft wide bucket) that cost $12,600 new in May05 (10% down, 0% for 36 months). It's been fine for work around my 10 acres place (flat pasture land, 20'x350' gravel driveway. It's set up for a mid-mount mower (which I didn't get).

It digs (a $300 King Kutter 4-ft wide box blade plus the FEL)

it plows (a $140 middle buster plow)

it tills (a $300 used Yanmar RS-1200 rototiller, 4-ft wide)

I also looked at the B7800. I was comparing it to the New Holland TC30 (these tractors are very comparable). The New Holland dealer said the TC30 is his best seller because of price. He also stated it is what he considers an economy tractor. I got the same discussion from the Kubota dealer on the B7800. Both are very good tractors that will do what you want. But I wanted the features of the B3030, and after talking with the dealer he could see i wouldn't be happy without the upgrade features of the 3030. It will be a little more, but in the end I'm very happy with the 3030.
