So cool livin' in the country...

I tell the story about the time when we were kids a small plane (piper cub) came in flying low over the field on the other side of the creek. We became convinced that "Sky King" was in need of a place to land but couldn't because the bales of hay in the field were in the way. We were the only ones there to save the day so we rushed to the rescue. We ran out into the field and rolled the bales out of the way until we had cleared a path sufficient for the plane to land. Sure enough the plane came back around, lined up with the "landing strip" that we had just created, and landed.

Come to find out after he landed that the pilot was a friend of the man that lived across the road from us and he was buzzing our field to catch the attention of our neighbor who was to then meet him at a small air strip about 4 miles from out house. But when he saw us kids doing all this work for him he felt somewhat obligated to land. He then offered to give each of us a ride which of course we accepted.

That ride was the first time in my life that I had ever been in a plane. We swooped down through a small valley (where we used to go hiking in our spare time) and popped up over a hill, it was an exciting experience that was pure magic.

Living in the country I had many exciting adventures, we were either working hard or playing hard, I was never ever bored.

Living in the "boonies".....means I can walk out on the porch first thing in the a.m. in my jockeys, with coffee, and pee off the porch and not bother anybody. If I can't do that -- I'm not far enough out. (like right at the moment -- ugh) but not for long.

Sooooo funny. That's the first thing I do in the morning when I'm at my cabin.

I've killed all off grass around my back porch doing that. I rarely ever pee in our bathroom at all. I'm so used to p#ssin outside that I usually go outside when we go to our friends houses. Luckily the all live in the country too.

Yea I know, but then of course I kind of figured only the older guys would pick up on that. In another thread you said it was going to be hard to figure just how old you might be. If you remember Sky King then ..Hmm...

That was great fun. If a person has only ridden in large commercial airliners and not ever been in a small plane, they have no idea what fun flying in a plane can be.

Guilty!!

My accountant once told me he could never live on my farm? Said it was too noisey?
Two days later I recieved a tape of our call.

In the background you could hear the peacocks, the ginnies, even Aflac [our white geese] all raising a hoot over something!

He referred to it as noise? City Slicker!

Car doors slamming, sirens, horns, neighbors argueing, thats noise!

Seven years ago when my grandson was born, the wife and I cleaned up and drove 2 hrs to the city hospital to visit our new boy!

While in the elevator and again in the waiting room we heard people talking about ....that there must be a horse in here somewhere!!!

I'll take a roster call over an alarm clock any day!!

Stay Safe
Frank

Be careful when your grand sons visit!
I watched my 4 yr old grandson all last week. While working on the farm when Nature called, we would just pick a close by tree and take care of it.

Then I dropped him off at my X's house for the weekend.
Well she only has 1 potted plant in her condo, and I doubt it's going to survive!!

You should have heard the message she left!!

Yep, you've got to be careful about that Grandson training...school teachers don't much appreciate that training at recess breaks.

Country life was hard for me growing up....we were poor and had to scrape for every $. I swore if I could ever escape that farm I would never, ever look back. Now, today I'm "retired" from city life forever and will never leave my little slice of Heaven in East Texas...and I join those who relish the outside restroom facilities.

Country life is special.

When I met Steph, she was living in the city and her son was afraid to get dirty. Now that they live here, he's one of the dirtiest kids you'd ever see. He loves to play with his tractors, roll around in a good mud hole and swim in the pond. I'd like to think I had some influence in his transformation, but realize that just living out here has more to do with it then anything else!!
