So does anyone use non ethanol gas

Bottom line is you should keep your engines tuned up, clean and use the octane rating recommended by the manufacturer.

Aaaannnnddddd..... back to the original subject..... non-ethenol gas....
I can't find it here in the octane rating recommended for my engines, so I don't use it.

My mistake on the hotter comment. You wallet will burn hotter, not your engine.

Who expeinces engine knock in a small engine that runs at a pretty much continous RPM? If its tuned up properly it should not knock on 87 octane fuel unless it is a high compression engine that calls for higher octane.

LOL then my mistake on the detonation comment, maybe.

As I was getting to in my first post on the subject. The fewer gas cans I have the better I have one engine that needs 89 or better so they all drink it. If I ran a lawn service or something like that I might think differently. The world is not a one size fits all sort of place.

If I have not already said it: Due to this thread I switched my 13HP briggs riding mower over from low grade to 91 no ethanol and it runs much smoother. It will be fun to see what difference if any it makes on the rest of the equipment.

I can get 87, 91 or 93 delivered to the house. In town the same distributor sells 87 only at one small mini market. He states out of Nashville terminal they are getting about thirty cent a gallon more for ethanol FREE gas and the Feds are really trying to price it off the market in his view.

Normal people will not pay more to get pure gas.

So, my Stihl dealer told me that Stihl bought the carburetor supplier it used to use since 10% alcohol gas reliably ruins 2 cycle carbs no matter how careful you are. It is now cheaper to replace a new carb on a Stihl chain saw than to rebuild. In any event I found a local outfit that a lot of the yard maintenance guys use around here. They have two outlets in town, one selling alcohol free regular and one premium. I use the alcohol free premium in all three of my saws. Since I switched, much less problems. I don't use stabilizer, no problems with six month old gas in the cans so far.

Just curious why you do that?
Unless an engine manufacturer specifically calls for premium (high octane) gas in an engine, most folks agree that it is a waste of money and can overheat your engines.
Not critisizing, just asking. ;)

Stihl recommends minimum 89 octane fuel; there is no maximum specified. I went to a training session with a Stihl authorized mechanic who gave me that URL. The ethanol-free fuel is only available in premium here in Ore. He said more than 90% of the repairs he does are due to bad fuel. He recommended not using any ethanol-based fuel that was more than 30 days old. He said Sta-bil can be effective, but he only recommended the blue marine formulation, not the red stuff. The ethanol attracts water, and I live in a high humidity region. So the ten cents more per gallon seems reasonable, and meeting the best recommendations available is the way I'm going.

I have decided for the person who maybe only uses a gallon or less a year of 2-cycle gas the non ethanol premix in metal bottles at the saw shops and parts houses is a great option.
