And some jackleg left the trigger on the pump locked open before they reseated the pump on the housing. I flip up the little activator on the pump and the next thing I know there is diesel puking all over the rear of the truck and cans. I lost about 1/3 of a gallon before I got it shoved in a can. What a jerk!

Sorry about your bad experience. Something like that was likely intentional which makes it even more infuriating. Kudos on getting the nozzle in a can so fast. I'll be sure to check the nozzle latch from now on.

Had that happen before and I'm inclined to believe it was intentional.

Not necessarily intentional. With diesel prices running so high the pumps quit running before your tank fills enough to shut the handle off. People just put the handle back not thinking. I now check because it has happened to me.

It happened to me a few years ago where you didn't have to pre pay; happened to several people; some people have a warped sense of humor.

No, I can't prove it, but as stated I am inclined to believe it's intentional.

Probably done intentionally. I know a guy who works for a chain of convenience stores and he expects those nozzle locks will be gone within the year. Too many incidents like this happen at their stores for it to be accidental.

Recently I was filling my truck at the local Shell self service (food mart) and the lady on other side of pump asked for help. The pump had stopped filling at full but she could not get the trigger to release. It was a new nozzle and I had a heck of a time to unlock it too, had to tap it against the steel barrier pole, it was jammed open. Seemed like a cheap nozzle compared to older ones. I have never found any locked in the open position but had a few that were a pita to unlock once kicked off.

This pump was not prepay so it had to be intentional. Some people...

I found one locked open once. I didn't spill any fuel. I always check the nozzle before turning the pump on.

I am surprised those old style nozzles are still available. The new style 11B were meant to eliminate a 'suicide nozzle'.

I always check before I turn the pump on. That will ruin your day for sure.
