In the last 2 years I have owned 2, Cub 5234D tractors. The first one, a 2004 model went through 2 transmissions, 4wd mechanism, locked up/frozen front axle, 3 pt hitch lift cylinder, cracking rear fenders/body panel and slipping throttle linkage. 126 hours.

The second 5234D (2006 model), which was a free replacement for the 2004 model, had what was termed a "bad engine", no other explanation. The dealer tech's, Cub tech and Diahatsu tech could not fix it. 20 hours

I was offered a third replacement, the new 5264D at no additional cost. I declined the third tractor. I asked for and received a non-prorated refund in full. I liked my Cub when it worked, but there where just to many problems to stay with the Cub a third time.

Both tractors where very well maintaned and never abused. I would not have been offered 2 replacements if abuse was thought to have occured. I was treated very well and fairly by my dealer and Cub/MTD, they did everything they could do. Good luck to all you 5000 series owners.

I bought a JD 2320.

Wow.

I'm not here to bash CC as my father in law has had good success over the years with his. He really abuses them, cuts fields, no maint, leaves out in the rain, and he still swears by his cub cadet. I see you upgraded to a 2320, which is 1 step up from my 2305. Was the cub cadet model you chose a little too light for the tasks you threw at it? Maybe the 6284(correct?) would have been the better choice for you in the Cub Cadet line? I'm sure you'll love the 2320 (I'm green w/envy) which came out about 2-3 weeks after I had my 2305 delivered. I really like the looks of that unit, how's the drive on deck (assuming you got one)?

No, I never over worked the 5234D or did anything with it that got close to pushing it to it's limits. It was never abused as I said in the original post. I upgraded to a larger tractor because I could, not because I should have had a larger tractor to begin with. A sub-cut is all I need now, but it was a great time to upgrade to a larger tractor.
