Backhoe So what can I really do with this 40hp Backhoe

I just purchased a Case DX 40 and had the FEL and 1102 Backhoe installed on it. It looks like a pretty strong unit and I believe that I will get alot of use out of it. My qyestion is, What kind of jobs can I accomplish with the backhoe?

Also is there any special technique to using a backhoe, when digging deep?

I just bought a TC40 with the 758C backhoe, I'd be interested in hearing its limits as well. I'll get to play in it a little this weekend.....

A little off subject, but do you mind if I ask how much you paid for yours, did you get the FEL. They're pretty much an identical machine and I was just wondering.

I have a B7800 30HP tractor with a BH. Trust me, I work it hard. I've dug stumps that the tractor would not push and had to use the truck to move. When I bought the tractor I had questions about the BH. The dealer said "It will do the same as the Big boys, just my take you longer" I've used both big and small. He was right. The only limit you'll have is reach and lift.
I use my baby in the woods as well in the fields. Recommend a thumb and bucket hook. Your ready to tackle anything.
Just get you some seat time and little practice and you'll move the world.

The first quote I received on the tractor with 16la fel was $23,200. After a bit of shopping, I got it down to $21,950 with R4's, 72" QA and 3 rear remotes.

The 758c with 18" bucket was an additional $7,200 installed. I might have been able to get a better price on it, but I was happy with the overall deal & I like my dealer.

I don't think that I would expect to use the backhoe to dig a pond but just about everything else is fair game with enough time. Have some fun with it.

WOW, Thanks for all the answers so far guys. I had hoped I'd get some good info like this. What I'm wanting to do is install water lines and some lateral feilds for septic tanks( I don't know about the septic tank yet, but I may try) I have a small construction company and have 3 of these installations due withing the next couple months. I was really thinking that I could but just wanted some thoughts on it.

That's just a bit more than I paid for mine, but the dealer was also the driving decision at where I had purchased it. Thanks for the reply and Congrats on your purchase as well!!!
