I cut 304 on my bandsaw all the time, and it's just a 4x6 with bi-metal blades.

Also, if it was lead, you could take a sharp item and scratch it pretty easily. Give it a try.

The first picture looks like the long spike in my front bail spear. It looks tapered to me. Is it?

It looks like a high end hay fork. I would guess it would be a stainless alloy hay fork from a quality piece of equipment.
