Times are tough so we are told, I hear on TBN "good used iron out there"
- I look on Craigs list every other day - not much
- Tractor house has had the same dealers listing new tractors for the last 3
months.
- Agricredit Auctions ? Price is run up past market value and the auction
closes with "reserve not met"

So where does one find all these hard times sellers ?? :)

I found my Kubota L3750 as a trade in at my Kubota dealer 8 miles away. I had been shopping Craigslist and Ebay for a couple of months. Then stopped in there on a whim..He gave me a great deal I think and tossed in a new boxblade with it..

What amazes me is you try to sell a four year old compact tractor ( tc45da with 350 hours ) loader, 3 romotes, r-4s, not a nick in the paint for 15k and you would think your trying to rob someone. The best offer was 10 and I gotta check with the wife... get back to yah deal.

Traded it to a NH dealer and was allowed 19500 on trade off the best outright price I could find. Plus I saved on the sales tax. They sold it promptly after it was delivered to the dealership. I thought they asked 22 but have no idea what the final outcome was.

I hate selling with an ad in the paper. Why people want to spend more at a dealer is beyond me. Maybe it is the comfort of a short term warranty. I haven't seen any deals lately and I think the new prices are only going up.

I'd look at dealer lots.. and drive some back roads. I can usually find 8-10 tractors for sale in my local area just by taking a different route to work, or making a driveby at lunch.

Well, here in northern SC, there wasn't much to see three years ago. I don't know about now. Most of what was out there looked like junk to me and it wasn't cheap. I'm not saying that these machines were actually junk, but to a first timer they looked pretty bad. At the time I was also not into getting a fixer-upper. I have weekends free to get tractor chores/play done and I didn't and still don't want to spend that time wrenching, patching and jury-rigging. Then you'd find something that looked good with low hours and it cost as much as a new one.

Then, you go to a dealership and they're offering 0% interest on a new machine and well, to me, that's a no brainer.

I still wouldn't say there are no great finds out there, but they are few and far between. At least three years ago. I'm not looking right now.....and glad of it.

I would think as the value of the dollar decreases and the avergae Joe has even fewer of those dollars that the used market would improve. Like 4 wheelers, fancy golf carts, speed boats and jet ski's, for many people a CUT or SCUT is a luxury item and those get sold fast when you're having a hard time making your mortgage payment. Problem is, if you're an average Joe too, you probably don't have much more cash on hand than the guy trying to unload his CUT in order to keep his house.

Speaking of houses.. lots on the market.. but very few selling.. saw something od where I live. Lady across the road was selling.. had been for a couple years.. guy down the road was selling too. Lady sold her house, and then bought the guys house down the road.. go figure? Lot sizes are similar.. but 'new' lot has trees only on border, vs all over yard.. houses are similar age and size.. Makes ya wonder..

My inlaw moved about two blocks a few years ago. They just wanted a change, but liked the neighborhood.

Times are tough for those the times were tough before we heard about a mortgage crisis. A family making $60k a year and buying a 225k home(and walking out of closing with a $25k check) is probably not a safe loan.

Ebay, Craigslist, driveby still good ways. I see a few auction places around but never made it to them. Buyer beware on those!! all the dealers I looked at when buying my used tractor wanted an arm and 2 legs for a beater.

You just have to be patient.
