So where are all the used tractors ?

Couple of good used tractors available down here. A JD 5325 with 30 hours on it. Too bad it only had the 9F/3R transmission, otherwise I would probably have snatched it up. My M6800 will be on the market in the next couple days too. If you look, you can find some good tractors.

I know, I'm a dealer LOL....BUT......
With all of the financing deals out there, new ones are almost as good of a deal as used ones.
Alot of companies offer cash off on cash purchases also.
I have seen a few tractors sell for very close to new prices in my area.
A few have told me the "deal" they got, but didn't realise the price of a new one was that close until it was too late.
We have a local guy that sells nothing but used stuff......
Sometimes exactly what you want at the price you want it at is hard to find.
Happens to me everytime I want to buy a truck or car LOL

Older 2wd tractors seem to be the best bargain these days.

Patience "IF" you don't need a tractor immediately. I had been looking for about 5 years because I "didn't need" a tractor. About 2 years ago I found (wife the yard sale queen found) an old power king (economy tractor). 14HP with FEL. A few modifications and it worked great for what I was needing to do. It just wasn't up to what I "wanted" to do. I checked local papers, drove around and asked around. Either I found to big or to small. Finally had enough and went to my JD dealership (I've always been partial to JD and Chevy;) ) and ordered the model that best suited my needs and wants. The one thing I've found for around here is the price tag for used is almost as much as new only without the warranty.

That is the same reason I traded my 4310 in on a 2008 3520, the dealers are selling new tractors pretty low if you are willing to spend some time.:)

I looked here in Pennsylvania for two years for a tractor with under 300 hours on it in great condition for used money and found very little. I went to a large reputable dealer inventory reduction auction just before new years. 180 miles away I found a whole different market with freindly intelligent sales people and a huge inventory they were eager to unload before tax day. My local market for dealers on used stuff, for lack of better term, SUCKS. Good luck searching but you might have to travel.

I saw at least 30 at an auction last Saturday. Some didn't make reserve and some didn't have reserve's and went off pretty cheap. Seemed to be a lot of lookers and not many buyers.

I'd look at dealer lots.. and drive some back roads. I can usually find 8-10 tractors for sale in my local area just by taking a different route to work, or making a driveby at lunch.

Who fills your tank for you? Driving around costs as much as a tractor payment!

I think what you see is a much stronger used market for Deere and Kubota, even MF then the other smaller brands. I can attest to this being on both sides of the fence...I do a lot of used equipment purchasing for the company, the JD used market has dried up this year but that is due to the lack of new iron from Deere. There are good used machines out there, just harder to find the Mahindra's, Kioti's, etc. of the world.

Times are tough for those the times were tough before we heard about a mortgage crisis. A family making $60k a year and buying a 225k home(and walking out of closing with a $25k check) is probably not a safe loan.

Ebay, Craigslist, driveby still good ways. I see a few auction places around but never made it to them. Buyer beware on those!! all the dealers I looked at when buying my used tractor wanted an arm and 2 legs for a beater.

You just have to be patient.

Yep.. around here banks were doing 104% financing.. that's gotten lots of people in trouble...

Merely driving a different route to work, or eating at a different location for lunch adds negligible milage to a trip that already has to be made. Of the 3 major ways i can get to work.. all are less than a mile difference.. big thing is travel time.. 2 are back roads and one is a hiway.. different traffic levels at different times of the day. All 3 have yeilded tractors for sale on the side of the road. Same for lunch. The town I work in and around can be driven thru in about 10 minutes start to finish.. that yeilds about 6 good places to eat not counting fast food... pretty much even up drive to any of them.. as I said.. fuel and distance are negligible if you are already driving somewhere anyway.
