Good work TK!!!!! Been a rough go with everything locked up with ice in Md. Had better luck in Carolina though.

oh we do great once things start to freeze. the blind we hunted yesterday was the only open water on the Miles river. wind kept it open, also made it cold

Eddie that sounds like a fun trip! My BIL goes all the time (films hunting shows for the sports channels) He says it is cheaper to hunt Africa, then to hunt the same animals on ranches here (Texas). I also have a friend that has been there quite a few times and he says the same thing. The PITA part is the customs when returning the capes/mounts.

As far as the Dallas Safari club, went to that a couple of times and it is way to rich and prudish for my blood, much cheaper venues throughout the year. The one friend I have books through Cabelas, says its much cheaper than DSC, IDK

Hey Dennis,

I found that Cabela's is the most expensive way to go by far. DSC has some great deals, but there are a lot of high dollar outfitters there too. I was joking that there are probably more millionaires there then non millionaires!!! Funny thing about the rich, some spend like it doesn't matter, others are very tight and negotiate everything. I like to negotiate, compare and research. Prices in Africa are climbing, but there are still a few good deals out there with the smaller, family run outfits.

One thing that I'm struggling with is finding a decent taxidermist. I haven't shot anything worth mounting since moving to Texas and I don't want to have to send my animals to CA and then have them shipped here or drive 2,000 miles each way to get them from the guy I've always used. I'm looking around East TX and I'm disappointed in the pictures they post on their websites and facebook of what they think is good work. Some is embarrassingly bad. Others are good at some animals, terrible at others. I'm only interested in big game shoulder mounts, but I get nervous if they post pics of small game that bad. It's like they don't know it and they are clueless. So far, I know of a few that are about four hours away, but hate having to go so far for this. If I have to, I will, but I'm still searching.

like that everywhere. i finally found a taxidermist i like, i take him and his sons waterfowling and he cuts me deal on mounts. he did very nice wood duck for free for the lady whose property we hunt. he also says it is cheaper to hunt africa than texas, though maybe not quite as safe. he is taking his oldest son to africa as high school graduation present i think they are getting airfare, lodging and several animls for less than $10K
