According to Thomas Jefferson's records, the veggie garden at Monticelli always just used leaf mulch and never added lime. Of course, they didn't have much acid rain back then, but this says leaves aren't acidic.

I guess Tom didn't have many oaks near his garder. Leaf mold now, is good for makin' loam outa clay, so I shred and compost some. However with 30+ acres of mixed hardwoods I don't try to keep the yard lookin' like a lawn. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
