BTW..... it has been raining steady all day long. Looks like I'm going to get a good familiarization of the RFM. I figure by Tuesday.

ahh, i see. so on a lawn youd use a pooper scooper to pick up the dog **** and on a yard youd just mow over it? lol. i definetly have a yard, a nice one, but still a yard. (p.s. i do use a shovel around the picnic table and the swingset but i dont think the kids care haha!)

Just think, when you pick it up, you are removing free fertilizer from your yard.

LOL, if you have to ask...... you might not be a redneck.

As best I can determine, with a lawn, one can stand for no weeds, no one is hardly allowed to walk on it, let alone drive on it. With a lawn, one apparently fertilizes and uses 2-4-D until his ground water is virtually undrinkable. With a lawn, one really fixates on its appearance and how it compares to his neighbor's lawn. This is my understanding.

In the country, the yard is that open area around your house and outbuilding that grows no meaningful crops, is driven upon with regularly and is covered with low lying vegetation of very mixed parentage. :D

A yard only has grass or whatever grows there to keep the mud from sticking to the shoes and kids.

Buying Review- Buying from Ken Sweet is about as painless a process as anyone can imagine. Shipping is very affordable and Ken's price was great. When he said it would be at my place in 4 days, I wondered, but sure enough, 4 days. Pretty darn quick. $1004. shipped, to my door.

Honestly, things could be wrapped better to prevent having to do touch up painting, but hey, it is an implement afterall.

Sicma Mower review- I mowed for about an hour. The 48" RFM follows wonderfully. I barely have to look back. When I move it two clicks closer, it will be even better. The gear/blade noise is fairly loud, but its noise isn't an annoying sound, particularly. The decision to get a 48" for the BX was the right one.

The cut. I was pretty surprised. I would put it right up with a better Big Box riding mower. The finish was very, very good. The windrow was disbursed out the back evenly. I am very pleased with overall performance.

The paint job on the mower is not at the level of my Kubota FEL, by way of comparison. I would compare the paint to TSC products, frankly. The decals are ugly and they remind me of the Italian flag. They will be coming off. The over all design seems pretty top draw.

So, kudos to Ken Sweet and Sweet Farm Equipment. I'd recommend them.

Thanks for the recommendation. Do you think we should consider shipping completely disassembled and in the crate? This would eliminate any shipping scratching. We are Always open for ways to improve customer satisfaction. BTW, the gearbox noise will get quieter as time goes by and the gears wear in. I like to change the oil after the first season to flush the gearbox. Ken Sweet

Ken, I don't know. I suspect if tough bubble wrap type stuff was wrapped around the loose pieces, that would work. That flexible, brown waffle stuff might work too. I dunno. As shipped, the legs and arms, etc beat on it pretty good. It's a trade off of having partial assembly versus protection provided by the OEM's original shipping container.

I intend to change out the gear box soon. I prefer 75w-90 synthetic.

Might try this, New Company Offers Green Spray-Paint Service for Dead Lawns I saw a commercial for something similar and thought that's as useless as knowing that Jamie Lee Curtis can now poop.:laughing:

About the mower and gear box noise; your statement about bearing noise has bothered me a bit:

As a former machinist/journeyman mechanic I am curious as to why you are stating the mower gear box noise will go away AS IT WEARS IN?

The gears sould have been cast and cut within the proper tolerances to eliminate and noise which is an indicator of excess wear.

The right angle gear box would should have been pressure pre-loaded
press fit bearings in the pedestal in the gear box and the PTO shaft entrance flange or have the proper shims installed to reduce wear or have cup and cone bearings that are adjustable with lock nuts and fold over tab washers to lock them in place.

The other item is whether the gear box is a spiral bevel right angle gear box or a right angle gear box with a cut conical gear and a cut spur gear.

Your statement begs the question of why it is noisy and if it is noisy that tells me the oil is not heavy enough to properly lubricate and protect the gear set( there should only be a low frequency humming noiseonly) with the several thousandths space between the gear teeth.

Called about every dealer within a 3 hours radius for a Kubota MMM, but none in the 48" size were to be found. (this size isn't popular, but better suited my needs) Really, really didn't want to be putting the MMM on and off anyhow, but not finding one iced that option anyhow.

Good mower choice and nice review, BP.

I wonder if a 48" MMM would even fit with the larger tires mounted?

Any chance of posting a vid?
