That was me. You poor guy. Poison ivy is ****.
zanfel is the name and I got a bar at my CVS pharmacy. I bought it as a precaution and have a limited recommendation as I haven't used it. But the glowing user reports on one of the poison ivy forums convinced me that it was very good insurance.
It's always best to wash off the poison ivy oils before you start to react to them, but the users say that this soap cream works then and also after you've started to itch. The directions say that it offers relief usually within 30 seconds and the rash will begin to subside within hours.
Another soap, a lot less expensive but hard to find, is Fels-Naptha which is an old fashioned heavy duty laundry soap bar sold in supermarkets. You use it immediately after you've handled poison ivy.
If you've started to blister, I'd suggest wet bandages soaked in Domboro astringent solution (also called Barrows solution). You may have to ask the pharmacist for help finding it. Inexpensive and also sold by CVS and others.

When you're itching and need relief, nothing is too expensive.
I see where others have recommended zanfel and naptha.
As I said, naptha would be your choice for minutes-ago exposure, but zanfel is suppose to work also after a rash and itch has developed. Both are good items to have in your medicine cabinet.
