Well just to keep ya'll up to date i used my subsoiler and made a bunch of passes about 3ft apart in a n/s e/w direction (made a grid) I'm getting pump sand delivered to day 100yds to start and i plan to use my box blade to drag and mix it with the existing soil. My wife, and i don't blame her, didn't want to spend the money on a tiller when i'm prob never going to use it again.
on the pump sand, man that stuff is like gold. The best price i could find was $12.75 a yrd. what have the rest of ya'll been paying. i can get NICE clay for $7 a yrd. and thats what i plan to top it with.

Do you have any rental centers around? You should be able to rent a tiller, they will even deliver and pick-up for a fee. If you think the tiller would be helpful, you could probably rent one cheep now before people start putting their garden in.
Just saw your location, do people do much gardening in your area, it may affect tiller availability.

Are you planning to build on this area some day? If so, you may want to get a load of fly ash delivered and then if you can rent a tiller, you can cut the ash in and your problem will be solved. There is a company somewhere around Port Allen that sells the stuff.
Not sure that if you were planning to maintain a lawn, that the ash would hurt the soil ammenities enough to keep it green.
I recommended fly ash to a company that was reworking a settling pond behind my house. They were trying to reuse all the material from the site, versus having to pay disposal fees for the sludge. They brought in a truck load or two and then worked it in and used the material the next day to build new levees.

I can pass on the gumbo mud, but some good gumbo would be great.
I drink coffee and chicory (CDM) every day, make my own poboys, but man some things you can't get here. Got to quit drooling on the keyboard.:drool:
