solar powered security light?

I've a solar-powered light made by the DR folks (http://www.countryhomeproducts.com/). Got it nearly 4 years ago. Used to keep it down near the garden area to scare deer away but found the electric fence works fine for that. Had it up here in the yard last winter to scare deer away (they appreciated the light to see what they're eating).

Now, I've it mounted in the attic of my carriage house so that I don't have to remember to turn on and off the light up there to see where I'm going.

It works great. You can have it come on after dark with motion or just with motion. Not sure it has a setting to stay on all night. Don't know whether the battery has enough stuff to keep it on all night.

Think it's about $120. Should be on the above-note web site. The plastic mounting for the panel isn't too good. Had to make a wooden one, with little clamps holding the solar panel in place.

I would recomend you buy a Compact Fluorescent yard light. They use about 40 watts and produce plenty of light.

Mercury Vapor is the most ineffiecient lamp out there. Its lumens depriciate very quickly and it uses more lumens per watt than CF or Metal Halide. Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium are good units. However if you get a power blip it will be a few min. before they turn back on.

I use a 25 watt lamp on my yard light I can see fine.

I've a couple of lights that use 13w fluorescent bulbs, one on my pool deck and the other on the back door out the basement. These provide a terrific amount of light. Bought the whole light at Lowes, with built-in day-night sensor. Think they're only about $10. These are 120v, of course.

Since then, I've replaced all my doorway lights on the front of the house and carriage house with fixtures big enough to take those screw-in day-nite sensor, into which I screw a small 30w bulb or a 15w fluorescent (on the bigger fixtures). The sensors on the front door fixtures have timers that cut them off around midnight or so.
