solid finish mower tires

i picked up a used buhler 6' finsh mower the other day that had 4 flat tires and 2 more spairs that where also flat. i managed to get 2 of them to hold air but i can see that this will be a on going problem. So i would like to get 4 solid tires for it anyone have any good leads for this all the ones i have found have been 50 to 60 bucks each. maybe thats just what they cost but seems a bit steep to me. thanks

I accidently backed into a hidden rock with a finish mower that had solid wheels on it. It chipped some of the rubber off the tire and bent the spindle frame of the wheel. Didn't hurt the mower any. The wheel and spindle assembly was about $160. Considering the spindle is just a piece of rod steel welded to the big C-bracket that holds the wheel, I'd say the wheel was the majority of the cost.

I would also venture to guess that since they are made to last a lifetime (with typical use and no accidents) they charge a premium for them so they can afford to stay in business. Too many companies have went out of business by producing products to last a lifetime and charging too little for them. If you are going to sell products that last a lifetime you can't expect a lot of repeat customers and need to make the profit to stay in business for new customers years down the road.

I just replaced the solid wheels on the wife's Land Pride finishing mower yesterday. I matched them up the best I could at a local farm supply store. They were $53 each.

Don't waste your money. buy four good Carlisle tires
and tubes from a Goodyear dealer and have them install
them and you will have many fewer problems with them
as long as you take the pressure off them when you store
the mower for the off season. I finally said the heck with the
front tires on my JD and bought good tires and tubes and had
the dealer install them on the tubeless rims.

I've been using these from Northern, $20 each right now, but I have gotten them for $17 when they run a sale. Even with shipping, you could have your finish mower up and going for less than $100.

I've used one set for two years, no problems other than making sure the grease zerks were tight and I always grease them before mowing. If these aren't the right size, they do have others

I upgraded the tires on my Sitrex SM230 last year...used the factory wheels, and the tires below. The mounting cone, some blocks and a shop press was all it took.

What sort of problems were you having with the front tires on your JD? I had nothing but problems with the pneumatic tires on my Sitrex, and haven't had a single issue since swapping the solid tires. The most annoying problem was a tire going flat while I was mowing....and I scalped a line the whole length of my front yard until I turned around....ugh.

Carlisle tires are the ones that are on there now. One of them has a rip in the sidewall. One has a bent rim. And two are holding air with no tube. I'm thinking about ordering two of the solid tires mentioned earlier here. I read the reviews and some people have said they have had trouble with them jumping the rim. I would consider spending the extra money for the ones recommended by the factory but I would imagine they're also China import products. We're looking at $20 versus $60 per tire. Plus shipping. Hope I don't regret it but I'm thinking about trying two of the $20 ones.

The Amerityre tires I linked are made in the U.S. and they were a very tight fit on the factory wheel (thus the mounting cone)....can't imagine them ever jumping off the wheel.

Thank you G-man Bart. I looked up the site you mentioned and they do seem like nice tires but did not list one close to my size. I did not call them though if I would've realized they were made in USA I probably would've. I went ahead and ordered two of the marathon no flats for now at 20 bucks apiece with rim that's not much more expensive than buying tubes and having them professionally installed. If they work well I may purchase two more but I have a feeling I might get what I paid for. Thanks again.

I have always run pneumatic tires but never the issues that you guys are talking about. I would think the pneumatics would bounce less and give you a smoother cut.

On the other side I do not have Carlisle tires. I had Carlisles on my mower for the drive and tail wheel but when they needed replaced again because they would not hold air due to extremely quick dry rot I changed brands. haven't had the issue since. I think the issue may just be Carlisle tires.

We have used TractorPartsCentral.com which had wheel kits with bearings that we used. I think ours were made in Italy, but that is where a lot of finish mowers come from. We later found a still cheaper price on Amazon.

yes thanks Gunny i just recieved my 2 new wheels that i ordered from the info you posted. i had a chance to install them and give them a good try to day and they worked good so far. only problems i had was with the old tires one had gone flat and came off bead while waiting for the new wheels and one of the grease fittings on the new wheels broke instantly when i tried to add grease.
for what i paid i can fix a grease fitting. i will be ordering 2 more now that i know that they fit and seam to work well. Thanks again
