My local family owned hardware store is going out of business. They have several New SOLO 633 Chainsaws for sale at 40% off the $269.00 regular price. Might go to 50% off next week if they don't sell.

Is that a good deal?
Is that a good Saw?

Anybody know?

Hi Rob,

I've got one (Mod 640, I think) that I bought at Costco a few years ago. I love it. It's light and powerful. My FIL really likes it compared to his heavy Stihl! About a year ago, the plastic (fiber composite actually) driveshaft for the little chain oil pump warped due to heat and the oil pump quit turning. I contacted Solo through the web and they were extremely helpful in resolving the problem; they sent me a new pump "kit" (driveshaft, gear, pump) with a redesigned locating pin to prevent reoccurance of the problem at no cost.

At that price, I think I would give one a try, how could you go wrong?

From SOLO's web site,

http://solousa.com/

that looks like a good limbing-type saw with the handle/grip at the balance point.

When I took mine down to repair the oil pump, I was very impressed with the materials and construction quality. It is typical German engineering/design.

Thanks guys,
It seems like a great price for a German saw, that's why I asked. I noticed the 633 model is not listed in the website so it must be an older model? But again, it's brand new off the shelf. I've got a Stihl 310 and wanted a smaller saw for little stuff. Guess this will do OK, ya think?

It looks like a decent limbing saw. German quality at a very reasonable price. Not to mention they have a spare parts list online where you can order them. That's two positives in my book.

Yeah, that's what was thinking too. I'd like to get another Stihl but I don't think I can pass on this deal.

By the way Jim, I'm very happy for you. I've been following your other post but refrained from comment. That just PO's me to no end. You got some good feedback as it was.
Good luck.

Rob, Thanks.

Let us know how the new saw runs.

solo chainsaws are top of the line. i have a solo 603 with a 48" bar that i bought new back in the late 80's. at that time it was solo's largest saw, and maybe still is. i used it alot on large hardwood trees and never had a problem aside from spark plugs, and a rear sprocket replacement. very good quality saws, and at the price you found, a great buy...
