Here are a few pics of the damage to my property caused by Hurricane Rita. My house got the worst part of the damage and my tractor survived unscathed /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
This first pic is of some of the roof damage to my house.

Another pic of shingle damage. The area of missing shingles lower in the picture also had the roofing felt torn up but at the angle I took this picture you can't see the bare plywood decking. The open area at the peak of the roof was where the chimney style roof vent sat. it was completely torn away and exposed the inside of the house to the elements.

Here is one of the back of the house. I don't know what hit the roof but it left a hole in it and must be why the soffits are missing in this area. I'm just glad the hole is out over the eve and no water seems to have gotten in the house in this area.

This is the wall just under the part of the roof in the last pic. It seems to have been pushed in about 2 to 3 inches in the middle of the span. I couldn't get any good up close pics of the area but it looked to me like the roof actually lifted off the wall and that allowed the wall to push in.

This pine tree seems to have tried like heck to stay rooted and in one piece. There is no damage to it other than being bent over. I looked closely at it but could not find any cracks in the trunk, and the roots are still firmly embedded in the ground.

Out just beyond the pole is my plum tree that didn't fare as well as the pine tree. To tell the truth this was the most upsetting to me because I had been trying to save this tree. The previous owners had neglected it for years, allowing some of the branches to die and rot and others to grow too close to each other strangling both. So after many hours of work and sweat I finally got some plums from it this past season. Now I get to go out tomorrow and take it to the burn pile.

Before you cut up your plum tree, here is something you might try. Over a year ago, a tornado went though our orchard and took down all of the apple and plum trees. Some were snapped off, but some were just laid over. We took the tractor and pulled the undamaged trees upright. We then put cables on them and secured them to steel post we had set. We used sections of garden hose to protect the trees from the cable. A year and a half later all of the trees we set back up, re-rooted and are healthy and producing fruit. So don't give up on it if it is not snapped off.

Dozernut does have a point.

In addition If the tree is still alive the cooler season will be setting in now so it is the perfect time to give this a try.
