Tractor
Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
I took the morning off work today and checked out the Canadian Farm Equipment show in Toronto at the International Centre.

I was mostly interested in seeing the various brands of compact tractors side by side so to speak.

Kubota had a pretty big presence with a number of models on the floor including the L4400 HST and a L3940 HSTC. The L4400 is very much the same in look and feel as my L3400. I hadn't quite realised but the L3940 is physically larger than the L3240/L3540 and the same size as the L4240/L4740.

The Kubota Canada MSRP prices are still pretty much in the stratosphere. A L3240HSTC with no loader has an MSRP of about $29k. They seem to have monthly programs but it is surprising to me that they haven't just done a general MSRP reduction like John Deere has for Canada to compete with the cross border sales and with JD, Kioti and Mahindra.

There were a couple of the Cub Cadet - Yanmar machines. Pretty sharp looking.

I was surprised that NH did not have a display. The JD display left much to be desired -weren't many machines. I was hoping to be able to compare the the JD 4x20 cab with similar sized Kubota machines for size and general feel.

One thing that caught me off guard was that Landini and Mcormick had some pretty nice compacts. They appear to be identical and very much the same as the Massey compact that I saw there. Seems like there are one or two factories in South Korea that are churning out a lot of different brands of compacts. They also seemed to be very similar to some Mahindras. All seem to have Mitsubishi engines and the fit and finish was quite nice. Loader capacities were pretty awesome too - ~2200 lb.

Kioti had a big display. Nothing really new there that I didn't know of. They did not know when a DK40/45se with a cab would be out.

I have to say that I was most impressed / caught off guard by the quality / fit and finish of the Mahindras, Landinis and Mcormicks.

Here the Kioti dealer network seems to be growing well among the lesser known brands.

All in all, fun to check out some tractors.

canoetrpr,

That's a retarded price for a 32 HP tractor. (L3240HSTC) Kubota knows that their machines are popular.....but not THAT popular. You need to add at least another $5K to that price for Loader & then with our rediculous tax rate your looking at $34,650 with no other options yet. Good Luck. Boy, am I sure glad I have my NH TC35D.

Did you happen to take a digital camera along ? Would have been nice to see the new McCormicks & Landini's. How were their prices ??

One thing to bear in mind is that the price does not include monthly programs that Kubota seems to have going from time to time. There are some dealers that are starting to get pretty aggressive with pricing - I can only guess that they are feeling the pain of the cross border shopping.

Didn't have my camera unfortunately. I think that the Landini was about equal in price to the Mahindras. I think it was the 4140 that the had on display.

Thanks for the report. I am glad I wasn't there as I would get stupid ideas about things I couldn't live without.

It probably is a good thing that JD didn't have a 4xxx tractor on display with a cab or NH with a TC45DA. I've been looking forward to seeing what one of those looks like in the flesh with a cab.

you should buy one-you deserve it!

I bought a used C-60" Agrotrend snowblower on Friday night from a guy east of the Soo. It was like brand new and only cost me $700. :)

I had a **** of a time getting an adaptor out of one end of the PTO shaft.
He had it on an old Ford tractor that didn't have an independent PTO so it didn't work well for him. The PTO shaft was smaller on those old tractors hence the need for an adaptor.

Tomorrow I hope to get the PTO shaft in place and fire it up as it is now on the tractor

I was thinking the McCormick compacts are the same as the Montana-Farmtracs made by L/G.

The landini link sure looked like a Farmtrac.

Well, whatever it is....Landini or Farmtrac, it has a smok'in FEL full lift capacity of 2250 LBS and (if I got this right) 2800 LBS at 59" lift. That's astronomical when compared to a piddily 1400 LBS on my NH TC35D. In fact, the FEL has more lift capacity (on a 32 HP Landini) than my NH 3 pt. hitch. That actually becomes quite embarrasing for the Big 3 IMHO as Kubota definitely does not come close to this & neither does JD.

The fit and finish of the Landini looked pretty decent to me. Other than the colour does not look like a Farmtrac to me.

That said, I always thought that Farmtrac was Chinese made. Just checked their website and found that their compact series has Mitsubishi engines.
