i know what ya mean about that, i guess thinking about it now our light on the pole in front of the barn is realy not all that bright compared to some, and the way the buildings and trees are around there it realy sorta just iluminates the area back there, cant hardly even tell from the road that its on, and it is sodium vapor but not as bright as some are, it is sorta like a courtyard area it lights up i guess ya could say, altho not realy a courtyard. as for seeing the sky, if i walk to the in front of the house and look up its as dark as you could ever want, that was one thing that realy surprised my gf when she was first here having lived in the city all her life, and luckly here none of my neighbors are even close enough to be able to have the light come onto there property, and alot of them have a few outside lights that stay on too, and it doesnt bother me at all, and even if it did, well thats there property i have no bussiness to complain, i wouldnt want them complaining about what i do on my property so i wouldnt complain about what they do on theres, i think many are hypocritical about this stuff from what i have seen in this disscusion

"It's pretty rural since I live close to the middle of town..."

Big Dave, I guess I'm having a brain fart with that statement...or I need more coffee. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I bought my grand Parents farm a year ago. My nearest neighbor has a Mercury Vapor dusk to dawn light that shines in my bedroom window when the leaves are off the trees.

I'm considering purchasing a pellet gun...but I think I'll probably just shimmy up the pole some day when he's not home and clamp a piece of sheetmetal on my side of the light. I think that would be a more neighborly thing to do...especially since it happens to be my Father's house/light. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

wannafish: I hope the pellit gun is not for the father! lol /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have one out on my place (it was there when I bought it, and still is but when I get moved in I'm going to change it over to a switched unit on a prox/movement detector. too much light makes it hard for me to sleep and I like ot see stars at night and that buzzing is too much to take some times...

Mark,

Is your light a mercury that takes a while to warm up? If so, I would go with a switch but don't know if I would use any type of motion detector.

Fart away. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It's a round about way of say I live in a very small town: a stop light, a gas station, a bank, a liquor store, a hardware store, a dentist, and a few more small businesses. The closest business is a quarter mile away in the southeast direction. The furthest are a mile away both east and west of us. I live in a three house neighborhood in 15 acres of woods. Farms surround our neighborhood, and surround many of the businesses. It's kind of nice being able to drive the tractor to the gas station, and picking up some milk on the way home.
