In the last 18 days, I've received 23 calls from some scammer. The numbers are spoofed in a local exchange and between xxx-8060 and 8090. Each time I block the number, they switch to a different spoofed number. I've set my phone to alert me of the spoofed numbers and I just decline the call every time. No message of course.

I'm guessing that it's computer generated, because even an idiot scammer would have figured out that I'm not answering.

Well, now were are over 35 spoofed calls. Curiosity finally got to me and I had to answer one of the calls. I picked up the phone but didn't say anything. A voice said, "this is Joe Blow on a recorded call. CAN YOU HEAR ME? That's the key, they want you to say yes and then they record your voce saying yes and then they start cramming costs onto your phone bill. When you protest the charges with the phone company, the phone company plays back your "yes" acknowledging the you ordered the service and you're stuck. NEVER EVER say the word YES on a scam call.

This is what they are after.

The only way I have been able to reduce the the number of these scam calls is to keep blocking their numbers. The "no call list" is a joke. Block...block...block. Seems like some of these government agencies with the fancy acronyms could track these guys down.

In my case, I very rarely get a repeat call from the same number. I think that's part of the spoofing process. They use a different number each time.

I've stopped answering my phone if I don't recognize the caller. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

Second one showed the number of the sheriff's office, I used to work there and know everyone there now, so I answered. Some spiel about school loans

It may be time to switch back to switchboard operators and HAM radios - can't scam through those

Got a spam call last night at 10:30 PM from a Florida exchange. We've just got to the point of not answering any calls since so many numbers are spoofed. Most of our friends know to call on our cell phone if they need us quickly. So far, we have not have a spoofed cell phone number that we have in our contact list.

Got 30 calls on my home phone over a few days. 26 of them were spoofed spam.
