Re: Someone with a 4100 and 54\" front blade

Ok, first of all, if you want to move snow without a neck brace, get a front blade. Second, don't get the blade that John Deere offers for your tractor, it's to small. I have a 4115, and I know it's a little bigger than the 4100, but not by much. I purchased the front Quick Attach and 54" blade for my tractor only to find out how puny it really was. I ditched the 54" blade and had a friend fabricate a Meyer blade cut down to 66" onto my hydrolic unit. It is not Quick Attach anymore, but it does not take long to disconnect it. The blade is higher, wider, and more than twice as heavy. Even at full angle, it does not push my tractor to the side. I think your 4100 will handle something like that very well.

I'm not saying the rear blade is the best option but its still a good option. You dont have wrench your neck, because you clear the bulk of the snow driving forward /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Someone with a 4100 and 54\" front blade

What is the weight difference between your 66" and the JD 54"? I also have a 4115 and kept the 54" set-up I had on my 4110. A larger blade sure would be nice. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Someone with a 4100 and 54\" front blade

The 54" blade is not heavy and can be carried around with ease. The modified 66" Meyer blade is much heaver. I don't know the exact weight, but I have to drag it, cause its to heavy for me to lift and carry, and i'm a rather strong person.
The blade is a old Meyer 7 footer that my friend had out back of his shop. He cut the middle out of it and welded it back together at 66" He did this so he could keep the end braces in place. Less cutting and welding. He installed a new cutting edge, fabricated a metal support so it would fit on the exsisting front unit, sand blasted it, and painted it yellow for me. If you want a bigger plow for your 4100-4115, this is the way to go. "Heavy Duty"
