something electrical

Hello Folks, I'm new to the site and thought I'd just give some background. I have a Ford 600 (acually a 640) which was my dads that he bought the same year I was born, 1956. It has been a great tractor over years. I rebuilt it from the ground up as my senior project in ag shop 1974. When something is wrong I don't hesitate to spend the money on it because I always get it back 10 fold. But sometimes like now I' m not sure where to start. I know its electrical but not sure what. Misfires like my 30-06 when I finally retired it one minute to running smooth as silk the next. Ponts seem to fire every time but plugs seem spuratic. I'll appreceate any help

Lots of possibilities here. Are you sure its electrical? Since you rebuilt it I'm sure you have checked all the following but I have to ask the obvious.

Is there water or moisture in the fuel. Moisture in fuel can get through the carb causing cylinders to not fire properly.
How old are the the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. A hairline crack in the cap can cause misfiring usually when under load.
Old plug wires can get cracks in the outer jacket which could cause the spark to jump to a closer ground. Following the path of least resistance. If wires are wet and old, spark could be jumping to the water on the outside of the wires.
What condition are the plugs and electrodes.
Could also be the hot wire going to the coil has deteriorated or loose or the coil internal wiring could be breaking down.
