Sometimes the wife is right...

I told my wife that I was going to throw a shed together for my beer making. My original intent was to use some old cedar fence boards and spend no money on it. The attachment is what I ended up with. It is insulated, has wood paneling, linoleum flooring, running water, electricity, screen windows and door, a heater, refrigerator, and off course the coupola. It cost upwards of $2000 in materials instead of being free as planned. It is a sore point with my wife who rightfully thinks it cost way too much for beer making which she claims she did not know when she agreed to let me built it and she expects me to take it with us when we move. BTY my garage is locked and my wife does not have a key because she used to keep a close count on tools. IF she ever counted the routers I have accumulated (13+) she would probably mount a full scale revolt.

My shop is always open to my wife.

Why, you ask?

For one reason, because she is a very talented lady who can make about anything when she wants too. She just usually wants me to do it, because that's easier for her!/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

But the main reason I let her in, is because almost every time she works in my shop, I lose tools! She takes them with her to clients houses and leaves them there, then she can never seem to remember where they are. In the last 3 months, she's lost my 3/8 drive ratchet handle, two of my levels, one of my cordless drills, and my favorite travel coffee mug! But that's all O.K., because I get to buy all new tools! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif And of course, since I would've been upgrading the tools at some point in the future, I might as well upgrade now! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif And she can't get mad at me for buying more tools, because she lost them in the first place!

I just have to make sure the loss ratio never exceeds the recovery ratio, and I'll be just fine! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I know just what you are saying. Every time I build something for myself without fail my wife comes out to see what I'm doing. If I was working on something for her I can plan on her not coming around.

I was building a new trailer the other day and every time I got close to it she would come out and ask' Are you still working on that?

Oh well, I still love her anyway./w3tcompact/icons/love.gif

I have to let my wife in my shop, because we live in it!

But what is a coupola. ????
It is that square shaped thingy (technical term /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) on the roof. Functional ones are designed for ventilation, but many people put non-functional ones on buidings just for decoration.

I'm one of those guys that likes to have the wife around when working in the shop. She is great company, good conversation, and the extra set of hands to hold things is always welcome.
I usually use her to double check my measurements just prior to cutting. This really saves time and money.
Unfortunately, she gets bored and soon leaves to do her thing.

In my case it is more like "The wife is always right, and sometimes I am smart enough to realize it"/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I too have a real problem with the overdoing it. Just ask my wife about some of my past projects, and I am sure that she could keep you entertained with my past projects where I made a mountain out of a molehill.

I have been building a deck around our hottub for the past month. So Saturday my neighbor has professionals out to build a deck around his pool. They were done in one day /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Wife says see..... and I respond, "no hunny, they have been building it in the garage for the past six months, they just brought it out today" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Golfgar, I like new tools as much as any guy, but, let me ask you a question here. If you hadn't spent all that money on new tools over the years, wouldn't you already have your new tractor? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Or at least be closer to one?? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
