Son put dirt in my riding mower gas tank

Disconnect the fuel line and drain the gas tank into a container. Extend the fuel line if you need to. Fuel line is pennies per foot at the auto parts store. Put the fuel line into a bucket and flush it out with water until it runs clear. Drain. Flush with some gas. Put an in-line fuel filter in it and see how it goes. Should be less than $10 total. :thumbsup:

And do this with your son present. Get him to hand you some tools or something. He messed it up, he should help fix it.

You do realize he is 3 years old? If he was older I would agree. There's no way he's going to take that apart and fix it.

Just going to take him a little longer. The OP will have time for a sixer, a double header and some afternoon quality time with the little lady while junior fixes his own mess. Three years old or not, he needs to grow up sooner than later.

My original statement stands, have him watch, hand tools etc. DON'T just fix it by yourself. Don't get aggravated with him. Having raised 3 son's and a daughter I know they all make mistakes. The sooner I trained them that most mistakes can be fixed but it took effort the more they were liable to report "whoops" incidences.

versus quickly checking for fuel level and pulling for 5 minutes trying to get the lawn mower started.

I would take the fuel line off if possible. Then I would stick a water hose in the gas tank and turn it on full blast and let in run for quite a while. A lot if not most of the debris will come out of the filler neck. Let it drain out of the drain hole and maybe even wet vac the tank. I would go through this process maybe 3 times and then let drain.

To dry I would put the vacuum on the blow configuration and just blow it into the tank and the residual water should evaporate and come out of the holes.

Then I would fill with gas and put some de-icer with the gas to absorb any left over water, which will be nill.

That is what I would do with it.
