Few John Deere's and one Ford 3600 diesel.
Was car browsing with my girlfriend tonight and noticed something that looked odd. The back hatch was completely left open on a 70k Denali. If that isn't bad enough, we just got tons of rain this weekend! The back didn't look flooded but water did get in and I'm sure mildew will set in. How would you like to be the one buying that car not knowing you just dropped $70k on a vehicle that had been rained in.

I'm sure an air freshener and a small price reduction will make it all OK!!

I'd be shocked if they even mentioned it to a potential customer much less knocked off any on the price because of it. Bet you anything they'll sell it as if nothing ever happened and the customer won't be none the wiser.

Maybe that "new car smell" with kill all the mildew.
Which are really volatile organic compounds (VOCs). "It's these VOCs that produce new car smell, though some of them produce no odor at all. Some of these volatile chemicals, like ethyl benzene and formaldehyde, are also found in paints and glues, and they can cause problems like dizziness, headache, allergies or even cancer when inhaled in large enough quantities or for long enough periods of time. Some people have compared inhaling new car smell to glue sniffing or even sick-building syndrome.

That has to be one of the smallest back hatch openings I've ever seen.

It is the back window that is open, not the hatch (aka; tailgate, liftgate).

For sure, but look at the size of the glass closure compared to the hole it is covering. Also something else weird, it looks like it has another piece of sheet metal on top of the glass so a 2 piece rear window? Most SUV's just have a solid piece of glass that raises up for the window opening (when they have one).

Maybe the dealer did it so you won't notice the moon roof leaking

Hmmmmm! Neighbor just bought a new Toyota Land Cruiser. Think its about 60K. Had to return it to dealer 2X because the keyless entry system also caused the tailgate system to open. Been a long time since I laughed that hard. He would hit the key - the doors unlock, the headlights blink, the horn sounds and the rear tailgate swings up/open. Like I told him - I'm looking for a brass band to come out of the back of this unit. Knowing him, the band would be playing - "Hail to the Chief" - but that's another story.

Reminds me of when I was a teenager. My friend and I were walking home and cut through the local GM dealer at night on a weekend and found 4 or 5 brand new Trans-Ams with the keys in the ignitions. Good thing we were honest. That could have been fun, lol.

I took a closer look and see what you are talking about. I blew up the picture but still couldn't make sense of it. Now my curiosity is up, might have to stop by a dealer and look closer.

And as to the price of the new Suburbans/Tahoes/Yukons, outrageous yet I see several on the road everyday around here.

Like that episode of the Brady Bunch, where Greg fixes up an old jalopy.

Conspiracy theories for $1000.00 Alex.

?? Is this in reference to the dealer may sell it as new and undamaged, or to the mildew killing effects of VOC's like ethyl benzene and formaldehyde (aka "new car smell")?

They had to keep the back hatch open to air out the mildew smell from the last time they left it open!

I sure wouldn't have, my luck, I would have left my finger prints and someone else could have already been there and done damage and they would try to pin it on me.

Exactly why I didn't touch it. If it was the other way around I doubt the dealer would go out of his way to do me any good deeds.
