Maybe . . . and maybe not. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif It depends on how hard it is, but the regular buckets (smooth leading edge) on front end loaders are not the best digging tool for hard ground. With a toothbar on the bucket you would greatly increase your digging ability, but first choice for that job, for me anyway, would be a box blade.

Rear box scraper. You will use it more than you will use the FEL. Put the teeth down and take a few passes and I bet you can break up that hard pan driveway in no time.

Berak,

Congratulations! Glad to see we were successful in getting you to spend more money!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We do that so well around here. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I second the recommendation for a good, heavy boxblade. It will work well as rear ballast for your loader and should be the weapon of choice for your driveway work.

One other suggestion. Please take time to read the many posts on the "Safety" area of this forum. Remember that these tractors can be very dangerous. You mentioned "kids" in your posts. Please be extra careful with them while the tractor is in operation. Always look before you move the tractor to make sure one hasn't moved into your path. Tractors are a "kid magnet".

Congratulations, Good Luck and be safe,

~Rick

Thanks for the safety comments, I couldn't agree more. My oldest is only 2.5 yrs old so she won't be out by herself for some time yet! One thing I think I'm going to have to have added is the Quick Hitch since it seems to offer more attachments. Is this generally cheaper when buying origiinally rather than retrofitting? Anyone using a Quick Hitch / Attach Post Hole Digger or Stump Grinder successfully?

Just want to know what my options are in the future. I know in my area you need to put a lot of weight on a post hold digger to get it working so the 3 point hitch types are useless.

<font color="#FF641A">Berak, I sure understand your excitement. I wanted a tractor most of my life, but never had a good place to use one. Now that I have the property I finally realized my dream of having a good tractor. Regardless of which one you buy, I know you're going to enjoy working with it. It's more like play, but still work. Anyone that has never used one just doesn't realize all that can be accomplished and how enjoyable it is. Good luck and ENJOY! John[/closed]

Good choice on the larger tractor. Would have been my recommendation if I'd chimed in before you made the decision /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. You will want a box scraper to do a long driveway - you'll use the FEL quite a bit, but even with a toothbar that isn't a great way to do grading. Good luck, have fun, and don't forget - your tractor is a *tool* not a toy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif...OK, mebbe both /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
