Why are you saying "sorry" to us? You are the one stuck with an orange tractor.

Thats funny right there.

Sad to say, the 400 is an oddball in the Deere lineup - attachments are specific to that model due to the frame size and the 840 RPM rear PTO, so that makes them hard to find. For that reason, you don't get a very good price for them - probably looking at $1500 or so.

That 400 with the 60" deck is one heck of a lawn mower.

start by saying great site...and great information on here
1*how much should I ask for the JD 400
2* what kind of loads will the pto on this new lawn mower take?
1*I'd keep it.
2*A lot more than the JD400.

A note about tractor types:
You don't have 2 lawn mowers here !

The JD is a garden tractor .
The kubota, BX1850 is a SUB COMPACT TRACTOR.

There is A world of difference between those tractors.

Would probably cost him 2 to 4 times what he got out of it to replace it with something comparable.

*That's why I suggested he keep it.

Makes a nice spare / back up auxiliary mower.
Especially when he got it for free.
