Kubota BX 2660 & BX-23
My 16 mo old 2660 has less than 25 hrs on it. I'm still in MA and the tractor is at my place in CA. I'm moving this summer but currently only get to visit a few times a year. The last two times I've had flats and given that I do not have all my gear out there (air compressor) I have to pull the tire and go to the dealer. Net/net, I'm pretty much out of luck. It is a lot of money to have tied up and not to be able to use. When out there last, I had the rims tubed. Second time on the tractor the tire rolled right off the rim. My dealer has been excellent, but they can only turn work around so fast too. This week I got the name of the factory service mgr for the area, called him and explained my situation and he readily agreed to replace the tires and wheels under warranty. He did say that he doesn't deal with BX's very often. He's in a major agricultural area so he's doing the big stuff.

I just got to the point that I recognize that the only way Kubota is going to fix this problem is if tire/wheel replacement costs start showing up on some ones spreadsheet.

My dealer replaced mine under warranty over two years ago and no problems since.

Really the only problems I've had with my BX have been tire related.

My time is limited so it was frustrating to cancel plans because of a flat.

My fronts would go down over a few weeks... checked to make sure the tire valve was working and no visible punctures before I added slime to each one.

Honestly, I have not had a problem with the front since and it has been years.

Took a different approach on the rears... I had a big gash in one from re-bar and decided to have the tires foamed filled in Stockton CA... it may be near where you are and they can do it in an afternoon.

My digging and stability have increased markedly and NO MORE FLATS!!!

It cost several hundred dollars to have the rears done... money well spent.

I don't use my BX for mowing so this was not a consideration.

One front turf tire on my BX's would always leak down. Bought a portable air tank for them until I had a tube put in the one leaking tire. Last time Barlows put the tube in as a Warranty claim. Hadn't asked them before. The tube always fixed mine.

Between bead seal and possible dry rot at five and six years setting in we put tubes in the first time there is an issue!

I tried the tubes in the Bx24 and they did not work..Used SLIME...Case closed...No issues in 2 years..

In order for a tube not to have worked you probably had something in your tire!!!

X2

2 gallons will do all your tires the only way to go.
It cleans up with water if you do get a real flat that needs plug or patch

I did mine after about 6 months and haven't looked back.

I did both. First time one of my fronts went flat, I took both of them off and had them tubed AND thorn sealed. Apparently thorn seal is something like slime that my dealer recommends. He said it is easier to clean up when they do tire work.

Slime.

Did all four tires on "Rex" (BX-24) a few years ago and haven't had a problem since.

I wish you luck. I was VERY irritated in the beginning, and I appreciate your frustration.

I had the same problem with my riding law mower.

I'm thinking it may be a characteristic of low pressure tires in general... ?

Slime is really a good product for leaking tires. I use it on wifes car because mag wheels seemed to always leak down with age. had them remounted many times, new valve stems------no luck. Installed slime, no leak downs since.

I'm am disgusted. I got a sidewall cut on a front tire this morning after I made this post. TSC doesn't stock the tube size that I need, so I've got the front end propped up with the bucket for the time being.

I jinxed myself!

Hijacking this rant...

I like my BX 24, but so far broken fan, ripped out wiring harness, leaking coolant, AND front tire constantly leaking down from day one.

I finally got the dealer to look into it. Of course I had to trailer it to their site. His mechanic managed to poke the valve assembly into the tire, and _then_ realized he didn't have to tools to get it off the rim.

They insisted that I had to take it to Les Schwab myself. The Schwabians pulled the tire and showed me the defective rim. The bead area had a series of gouges in it.

Back to the dealer who said I should have had Schwab put in a tube. After some time arguing and threatening to come back with big guys with baseball bats, the dealer replaced the tire and rim - as they should have done in the first place.

I have two dealers in my area. One about 75 miles away, and one about 20. Care to guess which one employs buffoons, and which one has quality mechanics and owners with some class?

I'm the worst at guessing, but I would like to know since I plan to either take my BX to WA or maybe buy one there.

I have done some business with the Dealer in Olympia/Lacey and they seem OK... I did price tractors last March and I thought they were on the high side.

In a desperate moment, I had my Dealer order through whole good a set of tires on rims for my BX23... my understanding is the original BX23 front tire/rim combo is obsolete and a new rim will be required at some time.

After I ordered, I found a place to foam fill and had the rears done... the sidewall gash was not repairable... not a problem with foam.

I liked that Dealer but they dropped Kubota... so no Dealer in Alameda or Contra Costa or San Francisco or San Mateo... kind of out in the cold in the big city.

You know, I really should follow the wise advice in another thread. Just compose a rant, count to 10 or 20, and hit DEL.

I'm sorry to badmouth anyone. Let's just say I like the sales and mechanic staff at Sunset Wire Rope in Port Angeles. Other than that, I'll bite my tongue.

Sunset is Do-it-best hardware and also the Kubota and Deere dealer in the area. Until Deere screws them over too. (Dang, there's that nasty mouth again. I really don't like the way Deere franchises have been pulled everywhere. Very inconvenient for me, and really tough on dealers.)

Good luck,
Z.

Thanks for being diplomatic...

Port Angeles is a little far for me... I have a neighbor that bought near Port Orchard I think.

About a 100 miles from me was a great little family dealership in Gold Country in California. The carried Deere and Kubota, lots of implements and other things...

I stopped there last year and said what happened... the lot was half empty. The owner told me it was a really rough spell because Deere gave them something like a 30 or 60 day notice to not sell competing lines.

They ended up going with Kubota... Deere's action made for a lot of very unhappy owners... they no longer had a local and trusted service facility... in most cases where they bought the equipment...

Sometimes it makes you wonder... a company works so hard to build goodwill and a customer base and all it takes is some bean counter to destroy it.

Hey, apologies. Being diplomatic doesn't help you much. I should have said that I don't have any experience with an Olympia-area dealer one way or the other.

Your Deere story has been repeated in many places. I had a small dealer literally around the corner from me. Great guys, and able to get any part I needed. They lost the franchise for being too small, I guess. So I had to start going to Silverdale. Then they lost their franchise. And so on...

I guess we can always to to Lowe's for Deere's little home-owner toys. Parts, not so much. Service, forget it.

For now, I can keep my 425 running by driving to PA or mail-ordering from Sumner, but who knows how long that will last.

How far the great have fallen...

Is Silverdale a Dealer that also had both Kubota and Deere?

I've found there is no good substitute for a good local Dealer and good Dealers reflect well on the manufacturer.

Tires, Implements and such for compacts and sub-compacts are not something many of the big AG Dealers want or have time to fool with... sure, if you know what you want they can get it for you.

What if you not sure... a few years ago, the local Dealer which no longer carries Kubota set up at the county fair with a BX and assorted implements... they sold several that weekend and generated a lot of interest.
