SOS, I have my first tractor problem, Hydraulic lift issue

Wow! That screen was a mess.



I bet everything will work much better/quicker now.

Everything is okay. Hydraulic 3 points picks things up quick and with no hesitation. I bought hydraulic fluid and , gasket and O-rings to change down the road after I bought the tractor but did not have a compelling reason to do so right away. Most of the muck collected in the bottom of differential (same as a dirt leg in piping ) where the suction happened and the screen is about 1-1/2" above the bottom floor of differential and all the muck settled there (area of least flow and agitation). Oil in the transmission did not really looked bad when I looked at the dip stick and with no sign of moisture. This certainly gave me an opportunity to study the inter working of my hydraulic system. I'm confident I can do it again in about two hours now. I sure was glad did not follow the dealer's recommendation of taking the wheel off, taking fender off and removing brake mechanism rod from the clevis was all I needed to do.

Not that I'm looking for more challenge but I reckon this is not going to be my last tractor issue.

Here you go

See suction and discharge hydraulic pipes. The smaller Diameter pipe is pump discharge, the bigger Dia pipe is pump suction out of rear differential.



Suction line from the rear differential. The screen is behind the flange where the banjo fitting is located.



Take off the banjo bolt and the 4 bolts on the, mounting flange and withdraw the suction screen.



Dirty Screen:



Clean screen using tooth brush and diesel fuel.

Please check the link below. I was not able to see if your rear differential is your oil sump from parts breakdown. I do see that you have external hydraulic filter. There is a difference between external filter and internal screen although they both do the same thing. On may F-1700 I do not have external filter but just a screen in the suction piping in the rear differential. Look at the service manual before you start taking things apart. My description was general in nature and may not be the case for all makes and model.

Once you get a part number that you want, you can either just print it out and take it to your dealer to order, or you could go to Messick's, Tractor Parts for Kubota, New Holland, Case, and more..., with that part number and get their price for an online order if you prefer.
EDIT: (disclaimer: I have no association with Messick's other than knowing he's also a TBN member and has helped many of us out. There are probably others that will provide similar online service as well.)

I use the NH parts search as a poor man's repair manual parts breakdown to help understand how things are put together. Wish the real repair manuals weren't so **** expensive, but they do have so much more helpful information in them.

When I first started reading this my first suggestion was going to be the screen most people do not realize they are there. I have seen them looking much worse than yours.

When I first started reading this my first suggestion was going to be the screen most people do not realize they are there. I have seen them looking much worse than yours.

The reason is most of the suction and oil return happens in the rear differential although transmission and rear differential is part of the same oil sump. Transmission oil on mine actually looked good by dip stick inspection but most the contamination were collected in the floor of differential due to dissipation of oil velocity giving opportunity for contaminant to settle down. I believe I did the only transmission/hydraulic oil change after 28 years of operation and about 900 hrs of clock time. Fortunately my tractor was always garaged and there were no trace of moisture or condensation causing internal rust accumulation inside transmission or differential. As they say " out of sight.. out of mind"
