- 1978 ford 3600, 1964 ford 4000 rowcrop
i bought a tractor out of north ga one year.. a rowcrop.. and water had frozen in the pedistal.. nothing broke, but almost couldn't load it as the wheels turned about 2" either direction.
you will find the steering box on a rowcrop is an altogether different beast than an ag model.
aside from pulling a bolt ont he sector side blank plate.. no real drain..
just pump full of that sticky grease.
my 950 is clapped out in the front.. steering pedistal has about 1/8" of play I was unable to shim out.. it's full o' grease right now..
still mows fine.
one day i will jack it back up and clean out the pedistal and see about doing a lil farm machining ( ie.. weld n grind ) work on the parts and see if i can snug them a bit more..

mine was clean inside even with the water in there. found that the ear that keeps the wheels from turning to far to the right was broken off but its not really an issue for me. i had 6 tubes of that grease and knew it was'nt enuff, so on the side that has nothing but airspace i dumped 1 tubes of regular red grease to help fill the void. then dumped 6 tubes of the other in there, i ordered more grease for the steering box. it will be here monday and i'll tackle it. after all these years, mine is still nice and tight, very little play in the steer, just a little from the balls on the side. the next project is a front weight. seen an original weight on ebay, the guy wants 1600 bucks for it, not intrested. i've got an old tool box that i may mount to the front and fill it with concrete. that should weigh around 150 pounds when i'm done. and add fluid in the front tires should keep it on the ground when i have the bushhog attached to it.
