Here are a couple of sites. The first is for comparison shopping and the second is just a great all around site for cheap electronics with fast delivery. It's beats Best Buy easily.
http://www.nextag.com/ and http://www.etronics.com/
The great thing about stereo equipment over the years is that it has gotten cheaper while adding to it's capabilites.
I am a Sony man myself. I have one of those 300 cd jukeboxes and it works nice. Those combo DVD/CD jukeboxes look very tempting now. Made myself an inventory list of cd's before I loaded it though so I know what is in each slot. I have a Sony STR-DE 835 reciever. I use about 4 out of the dozen or so sounds fields it creates, lol. The surround sound is awesome. You have to get a subwoofer though if you want to piece together a home theater. It'll be just like at the movies. Speakers will be the key component. I have Bose speakers, but I think they are a little over rated for the price. Except for the Bose 301's, an outstanding bookshelf speaker. The human ear isn't to picky when it comes to sound except bass reproduction. Shop around and listen to some systems.

That is a hard one since there is nothing cheap about good sound.

I have about $1K in 2 receivers, $700 in subs, $400 in center channels and about $500 in rear speakers. This is all low end too. I have a LCD projector (my movie room) that is about 4X the total of all my audio. The problem I have is that once you buy something, you here better stuff and want to upgrade. You think 5.1 is good then 6.1 now 9.1….

If you want it just for sound (music) then Bose is fine. I would not buy Bose for my theater speakers since there are ok at best. There are much better speakers out there that sound better.

Denon is good, Harman Kardon's is good and so is Onkyo. Sony is not bad at all either. The Onkyo TX-NR1000 is sweet!

DVD is all what you want. Super audio progressive scan, inputs for RYB etc. I like Cerwin-Vega speakers since they are low cost I my eyes. Polk is not bad either. Just do some homework and see what fits you bill and your needs.

I just upgraded my receiver and speakers in my theater room and well, the wife just shakes her head! Be here in 2 days! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mike, what DVD in SACD or DVD-A disc do you have that you like? I'm still searching. I have only dabbled in the various artists. So far I'm just so so with it. On the other hand, the surround system I recently installed for a customer, for the first time really, really knocked my socks off. The sound was indeed spectacular. It was my third installation and by far, the best. Between the 5 speakers and the massive sub, it finally made me a believer about the capabilities of surround and I am not even a movie buff. Of course if your listening Don, the system was $15,000. Just the two front main speakers were $4000/pair.
