I noticed when I'm doing something and have to stop the tractor I hear a ratchety or clicky sound from just behind and beneath the seat of my ck20s. It occurs as soon as the clutch disengages the power from the transmission

An example is when I'm using the FEL and the tractor can't move fwd and lift at the same time and I have to back up. Another example is grading up a hill, sometimes the blade gets hung up and I have to stop and back up to lift it.

I don't know if that normal as in car and trucks you might not hear it from inside. I've never heard it on any other equipment that I been around that has a clutch where I was able to hear it.

My main concern is damage to the transmission gear train or to the clutch. There was no very much metal on the drain plug magnet when I changed the oil.

Gear shift or Hydrostatic? Does the Differential Lock still work?

Manual transmission . Everything works perfectly. I think it may be the gear train releasing the force built up by the torgue while the tractor slowed almost to a stop without the wheels spinning.

It doesn't sound healthy for a gear train but I don't know how to avoid it. Sometimes I have to engage the clutch while the transmission is loaded to avoid stalling or to change direction. I'm wondering if anyone has heard something similar just before transmission or clutch trouble.

There is a common sound on the CK20 that occurs when stepping on the clutch when the PTO is in use, it is the overrunning clutch built into the PTO and that is normal. does your tractor sound the same if PTO is off or engaged and you step on the clutch?

I've never used the PTO. I have noticed when I disengage the clutch in neutral that a rattly sound comes from the PTO area. That is not the same sound as I was talking about. I just assumed that was normal operation as it was there from hr 1.

The only time you should hear that sound is when the PTO is engaged (over run clutch) and you depress the clutch pedal. With the tractor running and the gear shift in neutral, look at the PTO shaft and see if it's turning with the PTO lever disengaged, if it is than the lever may be bent or out of adjustment and not allowing the fork to completly disengage the PTO drive.

I'll have to check this. Perhaps the pto has been engaged all this time and I didn't notice. I've never looked at other than when I first got the tractor.

Everyone is right about the over-running PTO on the CK20S. Sounds like a ratcheting noise. Typically only does it when there is an implement such as a cutter/bushhog continuing to turn at disengagement of clutch. You may be best to take to your local dealer and show them.

I value all advice but I don't think the sound has anything to do with the pto. The sound only lasts for a second or so and is not a running sound. It only occurs when the clutch disengages the power from the tranmission while the transmission is loaded and wheels are beginning to spin( no more fwd movement of tractor). There is no sound during normal operation.
There is a rattle that happens everytime I put the trans into neutral to get off. I've always assumed this had something to do with the PTO. I don't think the PTO is engaged as it is sort of out of the way and I've never used it, of course I'll check tho.

The word I used to describe the sound may be incorrect

I got my CK20S, manual trans last night. I've only run it for about 30 minutes, but I also noticed some unusual sounds associated with the clutch pedal. I'll be back in the seat this afternoon and I'll see if I can duplicate what you describe. Check back this evening.
