Source for propane valves

I am tired of paying annual rent and being tied to one supplier for propane so I purchased an older 500 gal. propane tank. I want to update the valves on the tank. Being a do it yourself type of guy I discovered all the local propane suppliers do not want to sell propane tank parts to a private individual. Having a background of 31 years as a heavy equipment mechanic and a college background in mechanical engineering I feel I am qualified to exchange some valves myself. Has anyone here ever purchased propane valves and where did you get them?

Large Propane Tank Fill Valve

I've never bought one of the valves, but I have bought a lot of other stuff from this company, decent prices, fair shipping costs, very friendly people if you have to contact them.

Would you have to have your tank re-certified after you replace the valve?

AmeriGas 361 SE Logsden, Suite 100, Bend, OR 97702, sells tank parts (valves) to the public, at least they do in Oklahoma. They also gave me advice on installation of a two-stage system.

some suppliers, at least here in Canada, won`t sell gas valves & controls to people unless they have their gas-fitters licence.
I have an electrical-mechanical background, and isolated a problem with the gas furnace in our house to the Honeywell ignition control module. I called around, found the part, but when I went to pick it up, they would not sell it to me since I wasn`t licenced. They said they would be help liable if I blew my house up.
I had to call a furnace repair guy, tell him what was wrong and pay him to replace the part.

Try McMaster Carr on line. Biggest problem may be getting the old one out. I did this once and found it was soldered in after screwing in. Had to drill it out and re-tap. Yes our litigious society has stifled a lot of DYI projects.
