Atlanta is sitting with 5” of snow on it this morning. The last time we received this much in one snowfall was Jan. 1992. I know my Northern friends on TBN are smiling and saying “big deal”./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif The problem here is we are not equipped to handle snow. The DOT only has 30 trucks that can spread salt and less with plows. Our airport doesn’t have the de-icing equipment so over 300 flights cancelled yesterday. My wife, a flight attendant, spent 6 ½ hours on the taxiway waiting in the de-icing line before her flight cancelled. She doesn’t think the passengers were to happy./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

MarkV - I'm looking out the back door at 7" on the ground, and we're smack dab in the middle of the area predicted to get an additional 6"-12"! I think the EF-5 is going to get a workout tomorrow. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mark, I think some of our northern friends must have left their snowblowers running last night; blew that snow plumb down to you./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif And a lot of folks even got to see some snowflakes in the air around here yesterday, but nothing on the ground. However, they blew plenty of cold air down here; 13 this morning./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Bird,Its colder down by you than it is up here in NY! Last nights low was about 20. We have had no snow of any depth to speak of, most at one time has been 2 inches. I got a new snow blower and have yet to see how it works /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif They say we might get winter this weekend! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

This is what it looked like in Baton Rouge, LA Wednesday morning. We have not seen snow like this since 1986. We also are not prepared for weather like this. Even parts of the interstate system was shut down yesterday until it burned off.

Ok, you guys got the snow, does that mean that us up north get the warm weather? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Don't get me wrong, I like snow, but I would take a nice warm winter.

Well, the statistics are in.

Tonights news reports that last month was the warmest December Maine has had in the past 62 yrs. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Ben,

I like your picture alot. I wish we could have a little snow to play with /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. At least on my computer your picture looked a touch dark, so I took the liberty to brighten it up a little /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks, and actually I had kicked up the brightness on it a bit. (even LA camera's aren't use to snow /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif )
It was almost all gone by the end of the day, but it was fun while it lasted. Right now it's in the 20s w/no precipitation. I hope it warms up soon, as my geo-thermal heat pump is getting a real workout. I was beginning to rethink my heating decsions on my house, but it's not cold but for a month, or two a year. I suppose I can deal with it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

SE Iowa usually gets about 36" of snow a year. According to the weather man last night, we haven't even had a measureable snowfall yet (measureable=1/10 of an in.) January is our big snow month so maybe we'll get hit later on.

My 7 year old got a snow board for Christmas and is dying to try it out. Caught him standing at the top of the stairs getting his nerve up to try out the make shift slope!

The least snowy year on record for SE Iowa was 11" back in 1911.
