Just bought my first rider, an old Murray 12.5 horse B&S single. Ya I know but it was really really cheap, runs great and cuts grass..

How does the average home owner get the mower up so one can get under the deck to change, sharpen, check the blades?

Drive it up on a set of car ramps. Or lift it completely off the ground using straps and your FEL on your tractor.

I don't lift mine, I unhitch the deck & slide it out.

So I take it turing it on it's side is not a good thing to do, use to do my pusher on it's side, didn't seem to cause any problems.

Not sure if the deck comes off or not, it has a bunch of drive belts and pullys between the frame and deck and I am dreading even a belt breaking.

I never flipped my 18 hp on its side. I just use the ramps. My latest thoughts were to lift it to a nice workable level using 1500 lb straps and my FEL. I use my FEL on my 7275 to lift my Cub front end right off the ground. I put a set of jack stands under it for safety. Then I roll under it to dress up the blades on my 72" deck. Works for me.

TURNING IT ON IT'S SIDE IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! would be very surpised if the mower deck did not come off, eventually u wil have to chage belts and blades. did u get a book with it?

Get a 2 ton floor jack. ($25 at Wallyworld usually comes with 2 jackstands.) Jack it up, place the stands under it and go for it. Simple and safe. As for the belts, take a good close look and you will see that they are laid out in a logical fashion. If you have even a modicum of mechanical savvy you will have no problems on your mower. Yours is a very simple design.

the plan is to unlink the deck slide it out and then you can pressure wash it or whatever - alternatively you can just leave it on and pressure wash through the hole where the grass comes out
flipping it on its side isnt a great idea but if you have to flip it carburetta side up exhaust side down
if a belt breakes youll be more worried about other things and not taking the deck oof - when mine broke it sure made a mess of the chassis deck and a tree about 20 foot away /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif yikes
also if youre lifting the front up block the back wheels so it doesnt roll out off the stands - the parking brake might not be enough as it only breaks the translission not the wheels so it may still roll
wow so much writing /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
