MF 1736HL
About to do my first oil change, on my 1736HL, however manual says to only use oil specified for DPF. Not sure if this is just MF's way of selling more oil or not? Can anyone advise me if regular SAE 10W30 or 5W30 is sufficient?

Thanks,

Mike

Any of these oils 5W30,5W40,10W30 can be used. Just read the label and make sure its oil rated for diesel engines. Most all diesel rated oils sold in stores meet current specs required by tractor manufacturers. The ones with 5W will be better for cold weather starting.

Oil standards change every few years. The amount of ash content in the oil generally gets lower with each oil. Tthe last change was in 2007 or so and the oil is designated as CJ oil. DPF systems were designed to work with oil that has meets CJ standard - other than that, pick a weight (30 wt, 5W20, etc...) that says works for your outside temperature range anf your are off to the races. Its getting harder to find but is possible to find some oil that has a meets the older CI standard - it generally costs less and is available in bulk only.

Rotella T6 5w-40. Meets or exceeds. Not expensive and easy to find in most autoparts stores. Used extensively in motorsports and high temp / turbo applications. Not only for tractors. Plus great oil analysis results can be found on BITOG forums.

Yes you MUST use an oil formulated for DPF it;s normally stated on the label. Maybe a google search will give you several choices
