Speed Deterent with 'Fake' Radar Signal?

We had a few "old townie" residents bug our selectman enough to get speed humps approved on 4 roads here. They are about 6" tall and 48" wide and cross the entire road. Probably every 800' apart. They suck... especially if you are pulling a trailer. I have thought about starting a petition among the neighbors to have them removed. I suspect should there be a fire or medical emergency, they would hinder the response time of the ambulance or fire truck.

When an ambulance is hauling a person with a broken bone, especially the femur, the patient will cry excessively in pain at every bump, even at a very, very, very slow speed. Your best bet for removal is to speak to your local EMS on how the bumps can aggravate the injury of a patient.

State put rumble strips on the road near me, where the trucks overturn a lot.

Rumble strips should be used instead of speed bumps. Speed bumps can actually cause a vehicle to become uncontrollable or damaged if unnoticed and hit at a fast speed.

Rumble strips, speeds bumps not gonna happen, just not done on a state road in this state.

Two blind driveways on the left ahead coming down a hill. My drive is around the curve. People coming down the hill can't see me at the end of my drive and I can't see them until they're already too close. If they're going the speed limit they stand a better chance of slowing down if I pull out. There have been three accidents over the years in front of my house that mostly were speed related.

+1 on avoiding issues with Part 90. As anyone with a ham license knows the FCC doesn't mess around with fines on that stuff(easily gets into the 5 figures).

Best way to keep people flying down the street is probably make it physically impossible. I'd work with you local town/county to see what you can do to get speed bumps installed. If it's a residential road it should be pretty straightforward.

That was my point.. I have a FCc license.. FCC has no sense of humor.. much like the TSA.. DOJ, etc.

The device I bought.... Amazon.com: SMAKN HB1 Microwave Sensor Module 1.525GHz Doppler Radar Motion Detector Arduino: Car Electronics
Whether it has the power to get to the street I don't know.

From the instruction sheet...

"Note 1: The radiated emissions of HB100 is designed to meet the requirements of Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) rules, Part 15, Section 15.245 (use within a building or to open building door)

Note 2: The Received Signal Strength (RSS) is measured at the total 2 ways path loss of 93dB.
Note 3: The noise voltages are measured from 10 Hz to 100 Hz at the output port, inside an Anechoic
chamber.
Note 4: Pulse operation.
Note 5: The design, manufacturing process and specifications of this device are subjected to change
without prior notice.
Note 6: CAUTION: ELECTROSTATIC SENSITIVE DEVICE. Observe precautions for handling and storage.

So I'm experimenting with it to 'open a building door' :)

Update....... I've had the 'fake radar' operating for about a month and a half and have it simply hung on the side of the house. I put it on a programmable timer to give it some randomness to when it's working. It seems to have range out to about 200' when my own radar detector senses it. It has noticeably slowed down some of the traffic going by which are the ones I assume may have radar detectors, however I still have many that don't slow down. It's helped and I had no expectation that it be 100% effective, but slowing down some is better than none.

Related to you popping the post back up, but last week and today, I saw a state trooper using radar on one of the rural roads I drive. I might have seen them once or twice before but I would not swear to it. Wish they would be out there more often since I see some pretty danged stupid/dangerous actions almost every week, if not every day, and it would be nice if the trooper could write some citations on these nuts.

Later,
Dan

In the past, microwave motion sensors or the dual techs (the only ones I use/sell) always set off the radar detectors. But you would quickly learn these locations. Or like the Beer Stores had microwave sensors for the automatic doors.
