Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

No need for ridicule Spencer. I and I'm sure most people have done similar and worse things. Pulling that post and setting a new one gave me flashbacks to the 16 new ones I put in our old pole barn because of rot or termite damage. You've done a great job, especially on your own and I've enjoyed the pictures and commentary!

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Hey I bet you the time and the cost of that post is not anywhere close to what I did.....
I go a call from my brother (lives at home with mom) to clean up the snow from one of the last storms . (she has it plowed out she/mom cann't /will not wait for me to get there to do it ) Any way they wanted more done and I happened to be their ... So I start clearing and get the idea to clean out around the walk way and to get at the trash barrels , lil' bro' had his bass hunter boat leaning against a tree , ....my first pass found his chairs buried under the snow , they are scrap now , second pass to get by the now wrecked chairs ....yup got the boat ......totaled it .... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
After a lil' talk behind the wood pile we are spliting the cost 50/50 ....his failure to take care of his boat and my poor driving skill........
That and the fact he wants / getting the next size up bass hunter Angler Delux..
Found it on line for $740 , on sale at $509 shipping $87. and it's a done deal ...

No I am not saying a word but I can feel your hurt ....

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

I don't think there is anything that ANY of us could say that you have not already said to yourself. Besides we have all done something similar (at least I have) /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. I do have to say I admire the pallet fork setup you have, actually jealous is more like it..... What brand is it, and how much are they ? Bet it made that job go alot easier !!!!

Nice to see you have it taken care of it, and the barn looks great, now that spring is around the corner, you can get to putting a roof on it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

jasonf, My forks are made by Construction Attachments Limited and I have posted about them a few times on this board. Here is a link to one of those threads.

To answer your question about making the job easier, I really don't know what I would have done without the forks. I thought Wroughtn_Harv would have jumped in this thread and taught us all a thing or two about pulling posts, maybe he still will.

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Hey, remember this thread? I am working on getting half of my roof on this weekend. I will work on getting the other half of the roof ready to shingle in the next couple of weeks. Everything depends on the weather. I am only now ready to shingle the first half because the weather finally broke here in Michigan. Unfortunatley now I am about broke too so this project may linger on for a while, bear with me. Here is a picture after I got all the sheathing up today. I went with the more expensive 1/2" plywood that you all recommended so it better be worth it.

Here is a view of the plywood from the ground. I don't every remember seeing such a blue sky. With my blue tarp walls, by blue boomer, and this blue sky, its amazing I didn't feel blue today.

Re: Spencer\'s Pole Barn Project

Here is a picture of where I left off for the day. I got all the 30 pound felt on with the help of a friend and we will hopefully get all of my blue shingles on Sunday. I took Bird's (and others) advice and put the drip edge over the felt on the sides. I ripped off all of the felt and drip edge that I put over the lean-to in January and did it according to the advice that I got here on TBN.

I can only echo what others have said, great looking barn going up.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of your putting the side wall material up.
