Spending spare time flying a MikroKopter

/ Spending spare time flying a MikroKopter #41
WARNING: If your interested in R/C helicopters, I can fly a full size , cheaper than my R/C Venture 50.

Seriously, buy a simulator for your computer, RealFlight R/C Flight Simulator - The most realistic recreation of R/C flight ever!™, and spend a year learning to fly, before you do anything. You will save enough money to buy a new car.

But one OPPS and your costs will switch places
That is why I stick to rc in the 60 size planes one misadventure you are only out 5-600 dollars

But, I'm insured in the full size heli.

Unlike the R/C equipment, I don't leave the house expecting to have accidents. :D

That's because one helicopter crash can ruin your whole day...

How interesting. That capability is so you can take videos or transmit
TV images of an event on the ground, I assume?

The majority of the guys have either a still shot that they trigger via remote control or some type of expensive video camera for commercial shoots.

FPV (first person view) is a experience like you are in the cockpit flying the Hexa. I have a tiny color video camera that is attached to a micro 200mw 900mhz transmitter. The signal will be sent to my ground-station housed in a briefcase. The ground-station will consist of a video/audio receiver connected to my HeadPlay goggles that I will wear to fly the Hexa. Here's my camera and a FPV video.

BTW: The video was shot by a fellow forum member. He also composed the music. It was his tribute to Labor Day.

If you join AMA you are insured. Just about everyone I know is a member for a good reason. (American Modelers Association)

Very cool machine, video and hobby! I was never aware that R/C's have progressed so much. I've been flying the "real thing" since 1985, but this looks like a whole different level of fun.
I was laughing pretty hard with your prank on the neighbor....lots of possibilities there!

Are you in NE Ohio, or have a place in the Northeast and Ohio, or live in a town called Northeast?
Great thread!

Hi Frank!

I started flying choppers back when there was a glow plug engine mounted above the main rotor. The torque from the gas engine is what got the main rotors moving there was no gearbox. Very archaic to say the least.

The hobby has progressed in leaps in bounds. The best advancement in my opinion is the 2.4GHz radios. Years ago if you were flying and someone turned on another transmitter that was on your channel it resulted in an immediate loss of control and subsequent crash.

With the 2.4GHz radios that is not possible. When you turn on the transmitter it goes out and scans the spectrum and picks two unused channels to transmit/receive on. Once they are locked in there can be no interference from other transmitters. very kewl

BTW: The wife and I reside in Northeast Ohio, near the Football Hall of Fame although my dream home is in N. Carolina. :D
