We have a pandemic, people rioting in the streets, kids getting shot, and the concern here is whether the Walmart carousel goes cw or ccw?!?
I think the answer is simple enough. Most people move slow, so if clerk fills a bag and turns it towards customer the clerk has to wait for the sloth to load it before filling the next bag.
Going the other way filled bags are coming to the sloth to load, and it may be 30 bags of beer, red hot dogs, cheap hamburger, cookies and all the other nutritious items that sloths buy.

The clerk does NOT have to wait for the sloth to remove the bag from the carousel, she has a fresh empty bag to load, In NO way can she check and load the next bag before a sloth like me can simply pick up the bag and put it into the cart.

Even worse, the sloth ahead of you pulls out their checkbook to pay

Or has internet (self printed) coupons that the scanner does not recognize..and when their EBT card is over the limit they whip out a big wad of cash and pay the balance and for the beer and wine ...not to mention the $7 cup from starbucks they came in the store with...

You're not a sloth! You would load as she turns toward you.
The sloth would take more time...going the other way at least clerk can fill 4 bags while sloth starts loading.

We have lots of Walmartians. It's great being "behind" ones who have six debit cards, each with a $4 limit so wait while each is scanned to buy a $30 item. 20200726_205413.jpg

Walmartians, I like that, may I steal and adapt it to K-Martians as we don't have Walmart.

Sure! Google "walmartians".
Us older folks remember when people actually looked like this in stores!
Dad always wore a jacket and tie, Mom hat, gloves, dress.
Young people today couldn't imagine.20200726_210403.jpg

That would depend if the checkout staff are multiplying 6x4 or 4x6, they could get different results!!!!!

I can answer that one to an extent: During certain times of the year they are all manned. Black Friday, Near Christmas and other busy shopping times.

Wouldn't you know it those are the days I don't shop.
