The part in question was underdesigned and subsequently improved along with a matching part, necessitating the replacement of both which is the prudent repair in most cases. Apparently there is an aftermarket source for the original design, which makes some sense as well.

You need to look into some of Deere's comparable parts availability before crowing about that brand too much. Solid, stable Deere isn't what it used to be.

The 7600 is a 1976 and we run 5 different brands of tractors and as rick says deere can be the first to shout "Obselete" at you.
The upgrade was available but i was not prepared to spend 1/2 the value of the tractor on a small repair with new parts and in my view if it's taken 7000hrs to give the first sign of trouble heavier parts are not neccessary as it will probably only see another 3000 in it's lifetime at most.
Any way she's running like a dream now and with a mix of aftermarket/used and machine shop parts cost 1/4 of what it could .

glad you got her going. thnak goodness for machine shops. we had to have a part made for a chain box on an old RR250 bros mixer / soil stabilizer we have.. it's a machine that is serviced by cat dealers.. the part from them was about 4000$.. the machinish made our part using the one from the other chain box as a template, in his mobile shop (converted bread van ), in our parking lot, in 4 hours and had it fitted and adjusted in another 2 hours.. at 1/4 of the price.
