I'm getting ready to build a sprayer to mount on the 3-point of a BX-2200. I have about 3.5 acres (1 acre lawn, 2.5 horse pasture). I'm using the sprayer for broadleaf weed control in both areas.

My question is what size tank should I use? I can buy a 50, 30, 20, 15 gallon tank. I can use the 50 gallon (approximately 400lbs full + structural steel = <500 lbs.) I'm trying to avoid multiple fill-ups when spraying. But, I don't want to go overboard if a smaller tank will work (30 gal.) Can anyone who's using a sprayer tell me how much coverage they typically get when spraying for broadleaf weeds?

I bult one out of a 55 gl plastic drum. PTO pump and my 1800 hold it fine....But then I am in FL flat land

I will try to get some pics this weekend if you would like

Are you planning to build a boom sprayer? I've been looking into this also, and it seems to me that your application rate (gallons per acre) is influenced by the type and number of nozzles, PSI of the system, and ground speed. I would go with the largest tank I could handle, build my system, and do a "test" with water over a given area. You should be able to figure pretty close the amount of chemical to mix to get complete coverage.

Chucko,
That calculator's exactly what I needed. Thanks.

Using a 8' boom with 4 nozzels and spraying Par III, I use 15 gal. per acre/1 litre Par III.

This is using a sprayer I made originally for a garden tractorand now run on my B7500. The 15 gal tank is from a RV sprayer. Could run a much larger tank on the B, in my case not worth the effort for the amount of use it will get, plus the 15 gal tank is easy to move around.

Thanks Malibu. I did some calculations using Chucko's calculator and determined I'd use a 30 gal. tank. The 30 gal. suits my needs and will be easier to store on the off-season. My sprayer plan is similar to yours. I'll probably only run a 6 foot boom. It's easier to manuever around the yard and avoid the wife's flower beds. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I went with about a 5' boom firured I could fit it any where the mower would fit.
Used a 50 gl tank because it was free and I can put 30 gls in it but I can't put 40 in a 50 gl tank. Not factory looking put it will put out some spray and that is all I cared about

Have you seen those misters that they sale at Home Cheepo to cool around your pool decks? I have strated thinking with a 50 gl tank and a PTO pump and some of those on my top might be like AC. I might buy one this weekend and see how it does

Wow! That's some great coverage from that boom. Where can I find more information about it?

I currently use a 25 gallon sprayer on my atv with a home-made boom. The boom is about 60" wide and has 4 nozzles, spraying a swath about 7 feet wide.
