What's your thought on a decent spraying rig? I need something to spray the pastures and do the fenceline. So I am thinking about a 12' boom sprayer with hand sprayer, 25-50 gallon tank...

Lately my pastures have been hit hard by mole crickets, dollar weed, and other weeds. The hurricanes have driven the insects to higher ground and most of my pastures meet that criteria. The weeds are replacing the pasture since the insects have done a number on it...

I never had a need to do this much before, and usually used my backpack sprayer for trouble areas, but this year has been really bad.

Any feedback on this? PTO pump or electric?

Tractor supply has some, but I didn't know their quality. The rancher adjacent to my property has offered a hand with advice and knowledge, but he buys the really big equipment! He recommended the PTO style for my size setup... I would have borrowed his equipment, but I have a feeling I will need to do this more often with the new hurricane cycle in full swing. I tell myself if I need to borrow something more than three times, then I need to buy one for myself.

From what I've seen, probably 90% of the "store bought" sprayers on the market are equipped with Tee-Jet components. The only "real" differences are the saddle that the tank rides in, and that doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

I personally prefer a PTO roller pump over the electric "RV" pumps. The only significant difference with them is when you are using high GPM application rates. That isn't too commonly used unless applying fungasides.

I've got a Fimco sprayer from Tractor supply. It's done the job for 6 years with no complaints on my part. I use a Hy-Pro 5-roller PTO pump (Probably massive over-kill) Most of what I apply are glyphosate or 2,4-D based products, and some liquid fertilizers. No troubles, but keep the system clean. Flush after each use, then lube the pump (I use diesel fuel since it USED to be cheap)

From my years of using sprayers, I have come to the conclusion that KNOWLEDGE of proper use is far more valueable than owning an elaborate, expensive sprayer outfit.

I have the same setup as Farmwithjunk. Mine is the 60 gallon unit that I bought at TSC on sale for about $450 including the pump. It works well and I have no complaints.
