Ok, so you can buy a bar with holes in it that goes between the lift arms of a three point hitch. I think it's called a spreader bar. What is it used for? You can only put on loads that always press down, since nothing keeps the lift arms from moving up. I learned that the hard way when I attached a two-wheeled cart.

It is sold as a drawbar many places. And as you noticed nothing is held down. However many people use it as a drawbar point because they might not have a real drawbar.

It is called a 3pt drawbar. ( some tractors also have a swinging drawbar ). if it is a standard cat 1 setup.. it may be called an 11-hole drawbar.

It is primarily for clevis style hitches.. not ball style hitches. To use a ball style hitch.. you can get a set of drawbar locks.. and stays. these keep the drawbar from rotating.. and keeps the 3pt lift arms locked down, via a toplink connection, to keep the lift from raising if you are.. say.. going down hill and apply tractor brakes.. and the tounge of the trailer wants to come up.. etc.
