Spreading bentonite

   / Spreading bentonite #12
As a result of a stock tank that doesn't hold water... leaking to the formation, I recently bought 3 tons of granular bentonite to spread in the bottom of my stock tank... a mega job...

How did it turn out?

IMO, the method you used is the most efficient, effective approach for most of us. Fert. spreader might be ok but doubt it would help that much. The key to success, IMO, is to get a thick application over the suspect area and disc it in good and pack it by running back and forth over it with heavy equipment.

Very low probability of success with just spreading it on the surface of a full pond, very low.

Of course I used a disc to work the bentonite into the soil after spreading it.. sheesh!
I bought two bags ( 1 1/2 tons each) because that's all I could haul safely with my trailer... Let me be clear.. I spread it using the FEL... this idea of using a fertilizer spreader was an afterthought... this happens to me a lot.
I feel certain that by using a spreader, I could get better distribution using half as much bentonite, thus reducing my cost ... my stock tank is about an acre in size. The folks at Texas Sodium Bentonite were quite helpful...
