It use to have livestock in it so the dirt is hard packed. How thick of a layer of gravel would you guys recommend? The man selling me the gravel suggested a 3" thick layer there.

Lee, are you saying you will never put livestock in the barn again? It seems to me that crushed stone would be really hard on livestock or horses hooves. I wouldn't put it anywhere you'd have hooved animals. I'm no expert for sure, but that's what I thought about when I read you were going to put gravel inside the barn. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do yourself a favor and use the geo-cloth, you'll use far less stone and gravel over the life of the drive if you do.

Here's a handy on-line calculator to figure out just how much aggregate is needed for most any job. I used it myself and it was really close. calculator

Thanks everyone. I am going to make a couple of calls to the coops and see if I can buy that geocloth from them. I am guessing that home depot doesn't sell it......

I am not planning on using it for any type of livestock. The previous owner had cows/horses but I am planning on using it primarily for tractor/trailer/implement storage.

btw I used that calculator and I came up with 126tons so I might come out close. Thanks again everyone.

I called the coop and home depot. Neither of those places carried it but the place I am buying my gravel from sells it in a 16'x300' roll. I asked him to put a roll on the last truck that is going to deliver my gravel. Thanks again!
