I see they sell ArenaKleen in gallon, 5 gallon, and 55 gallon drums. How much do you use and how do you spread it?

My SIL has an uncle that has a dump trailer. Maybe we can rent or borrow it.

I will attempt to get the current materisl as level as posdible before I bring in the new material.

We were going to buy it in a 275 gal tote, because we're going in half and half with the neighbor if we buy it, and larger quantity was much cheaper due to shipping. We purchased a gallon for our test, we're using it on limestone, the neighbor has sand mixed with shredded rubber and they have a much bigger arena than we do. For 1" depth they say you need .014gal/sf. Our arena is 50x100 so we estimate we need 70 gal. You apply it with any kind of sprayer that will work with water, so an agricultural sprayer or landscape sprayer will work. It's not corrosive like the chloride based products so it won't damage any equipment. They say it needs to be refreshed about every year and it will take about half the amount to refresh. We bought a gallon for our test and setup a 3x3 patch of limestone screenings to see how it holds up. We didn't get a quote for the 275 gal tote, but I think the guy said it was about $2000 and some change. So it will cost us about $500 to do our arena if we take the plunge. They also claim it won't freeze, another big advantage over watering for us.

might see how much it cost for a slinger truck to deliver. might be a couple more hundred but all you have to do is sit back and watch as the material is spread for you. then just a couple of passes with the arena drag and your done.

Thanks for the tip on slinger trucks. I'll check that out.

Regarding the dust mgmt with ArenaKleen, I think we may wait on that til next year after some experience.

A young TBN member Johndeere3720 has a website for his line of Jake Rakes http://www.jakesimplements.com. He designs and builds rakes specifically for arenas.

No I have never used one, but it appears to work nicely for leveling out arenas. Watch his videos and I think you will understand why I believe this will be your ticket.

Most of his dealers are on the west coast, and the iPhone app won't let me check your location in the middle of a reply - but I am sure regardless of your location, he can arrange shipping.

Hope this helps!

18 yards is only 60 trips with your FEL or so? If they are dropping it on a pad just outside the arena door then just get in your seat and get er done! It will take multiple passes with the york rake, but it will flatten out soon enough. Just be careful not to dig down too deep with the rake.

I don't have a 3PH rake, so this is how I keep my outdoor in shape.

I presume you have already checked and the truck will not fit in the door of your arena? If you can get the truck in, get the driver to put the chain on his dump door and move forward as he dumps. That will give a good even spread and give you a head start on spreading it out. They did that when I had my outdoor put in.

If your existing base is fairley level and bump free use 2x4's laid flat for screeds for your box blade. 2 long 2x4's on each side of your piles of sand you bring in to your arena. Screed it with the box blade lightly scimming across the 2x4's.

Excellent idea. Thanks.

Good idea about spreading with the truck but the truck wont fit in the arena.

I think I'll just bucket it in with the Kubota and spread it around. I'll try the screeding idea and also try the york rake.

Thank s for all the helpful suggestions.

Does anybody use tanbark as a final covering? I used to work for a guy who had tanbark in his indoor arena. We's spray it down when it was dusty, with water.
