Good day all, I purchased some property that has a spring house on it. The previous owner poured concrete box around three artesian wells. The wall near the overflow fell apart, after spending a few days with a trash pump and using hydraulic cement I was able to get the water stopped flowing and it is now pouring out of the over flow. At 343GPM from the trash pump it took me a few minutes to get the water level down. I'm thinking each spring is pushing at least 20-30gallons a minute. After getting the water level low enough I had a small gizer at one corner of the box. The other two springs were bubbling pretty good. I have several ponds on my property so there is a lot of water. After sucking up a bunch of dead mice and birds and cleaning out what looks like white slime floating in the tank (anyone know what that is?) I now have a 2" over flow that is pouring out a solid stream(some orange stuff was coming out). I have a few questions;
I was thinking about taking a sewer pipe and hammering that into the artesian hole. Allow the water to fill the pipe so it would overflow inside the spring house causing the water to get stirred by itself. Is this something you would normally do? I also thought about attaching a over flow to the pipe that would run down a 2" PVC outside the spring house for fresh water. Have a gate valve where gravity from the artesian would push water out the valve and then continue to overflow when the valve is off. I don't want to cap the spring house, I'm going to say it has been around for a really long time. It use to be built with rocks and now is more contained with the concrete walls. During a 100F degree day the spring house sits at a low 40F degrees. There use to be shelving in the house but I'm guessing the wood all rotted and sank to the bottom.
I had the water tested recently and there is no bacteria, the lady said it's very clean water. The box is 12X12 and the problem I face now is the water doesn't move fast enough it builds up a white/cloudy algae or slim ball as the wife would say.
I'm open to ideas, I'm running to the lumber yard to night to get pressure treated boards to build up on the box and make a house to keep the pump and other tools in.
Here is my thought;
