Spring fell off mid mount mower

Hi I was mowing last night with my 54" finecut MMM and it sounded a bit odd at first but seemed to be working fine, when I got to a second area something sound really odd, I stopped the mower and just behind me was the tension spring on the ground. Took me a few minutes to figure out what happened but I was able to just put the spring back on and fortunately the belt didn't get dmaaged.

JUst wondering if this has happened to you, I did use the machine in the woods last week and hit the edge of the mower enough to bend a baffle slightly and bent it back but I am not sure this would have much to do with the spring. I wasn't mowing in the woods, but it snagged on a small stump head.

That did happen to me, sortof. My spring wasn't on the ground, but still hanging on the idler arm. The stud that held it to the deck broke off and the spring just lay there rattling. It was the noise that caused me to notice it, since the deck still seemed to be cutting....though not very well. This was not the fine cut deck but a standard model, 60".

Not too good unfortunately, I tried to order the bushing from messicks and they responded but still haven't given me the number so I could order it online, no sure what happened. Sadly I don't think the boot is for a 54" it really doesn't sit right at all in the opening and it seems too oversized. I think the one I had is a heavy duty 60" and this is the regular, there doesn't seem to be any way for it to connect and no one here seems to have the same setup I do or at least has been able to send me a picture of the deck with the plastic deflector. I will probably just end up ordering what they show as the right boot, I wish I could find a book that showed how to connect the boots.

Well i can say that the boot was definitely to small for my 60. The
Only thing I can think of is maybe the boot is for 54 inch fine cut and yours is a regular 54 inch. Or vice versa.
Definitely came off a 54 inch deck. Maybe the deck designs have changed.
